Actually, it's not random at all. It was inspired by THX-1138, which was George Lucas' first feature film. The whole vibe of the video,f rom the white backgrounds to the robot cops and so on, all comes directly from the movie.
The movie is set in the distant future, where the human race lives in a subteranean world where they are kept under control via powerful drugs that keep them docile. Everyone is identified by a code, three letters, followed by four numbers. THX-1138 is a man who breaks the law by makign love to his mate, and is hunted by the government as he attempts to reach the surface.
