"love of my life" was about his cat, who probably ran away. That's irony for you. Just like every other love song he ever wrote. They were about CATS. ALL OF THEM.
Trust me it's very easy to fall in love with a crazy feline and call it silly names and sing jingles and make up serious love songs to it all day long. My mom has one. He has hundreds of names and about 20 songs she sings to him, some of them she made up, and he luvs it.
