Hello all. I just heard a very beautiful freddie demo on the piano a friend sent me called you're the only one. Is there an original version on an album? Or an official release of it?
NA
a demo of freddie on the piano, released on the solo collection.
It wasn't released on the solo collection.

I've been out of the loop for a while. When was the "You're The Only One" demo recorded? Was it a Freddie solo demo, a Queen demo or what?

yeh, well hadnt gotten round to that yet, sooory for making a mistake, because YOU never make mistakes, im sure, yes?
It was recorded in Logan Place, July 1983. A personal song for Mary from Freddie. It is 1:56 short, but beautiful. Queen made one attempt in the studio, but found it too personal to be on a Queen album. Regretfully Freddie never used it for further recording. Peter Straker remembers Freddie working on it, and loved the melody. But, so he says, Freddie was a "melody maker"....pitty they hardly ever wrote anything positive about Fredddie...the mag that is.....he had zillions of beautiful melodies in his head....too bad that hardly anyone of them was ever saved on tape...this song is just so lucky to have been saved for the future....and a shame it wasn't on the Freddie box. It was me (Basje)who gave it to Greg a couple of years ago, and he didn't know about it then. afterwards he found some material of this melody, but that is not going to be used.
So...if you can get hold of it, cherish it, as it is truly a magnificent diamond. Even with only 1:56 short....it will take your breath away when you first hear it....I have this song for many years now, and it is still one of my all-time favorites.

makes me wonder....
With the only real lines being "I'm so sorry", "With my head in the clouds", and "You are the only one", I hardly see how what is essentially a piano melody with vocalisations can be about Mary.
Does anyone know where I can hear this demo?
