Saying that the 60's/70's had it all is bullshit. Only the good music survived and the crap is forgotten. The same will happen with today's music.
True, but the '80s and ESPECIALLY the '90s will feature very little out of the MAINSTREAM that will survive. The absolute majority of decent music in especially the latter of the beforementioned two decades came from the underground.
Nah, I think the 90's will be remembered mostly for bands such as Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, Metallica and some of the boy-band/girl-band stuff. Not all of the aforementioned music is that good, but still. The 70's had disco, the 60's had lots of music that was way too experimental (and therefore sounds dated) and so on.

But indeed, overall, the last 20 years or so, there has been quite a bit of (c)rap music. Although, that's partly due to the huge musically diversity nowadays.
God this is sick...absolutely sick. You know the only reason that she got it was because her Daddy has all the money that he can throw around.
There is so much crap out there right now....Like Kevin and Justin that were mentioned. His new single is absolute crap. It's getting to the point where I can't even listen to the radio anymore, without hearing it. Thank godness for my Queen CD's and people who can actually sing, like KT Tunstall.

So many musician friends of mine would kill for a record contract, and Paris Hilton gets one. The times they are a-changin'.

Oops, a Bob Dylan reference.

So true. The first part that is. And they'd deserve it more than her, I daresay.
Not Plutus but Apollo rules Parnassus
Y'know it isn't all bad. I think Paris is OK. Thats it. Absolutely nothing special. And I laugh at her calling 'Stars Are Blind,' reggae. It's pop. And then we have got the Pussycat Dolls (only one of 'em is a half decent singer, the others just shake their arses behind said singer), Rhiana (absolute BULLcrap)and other shite artists who don't write their own music or have an outstanding voice. They sell on their looks. But then we also have Anastacia, Shakira, Christina Aguilera who are geniunely talented. You may not like that music but give these girls some credit. They are clever and do write and produce their own stuff. And then we have U2, Green Day and Oasis who'll still write stuff until the time 'when they stop buying the records I'll say goodbye and do something else, become a skip artist or something' that is worthwhile. So our generation isn't all bad. Indeed there is a great deal of surprise when someone new and outstanding come out whereas back in the 60's and 70's competition was so fierce you had to be really good. So the music industry doesn't have such high expectations nowadays.

But some day (one day) just like Sgt. Pepper's and Bohemian Rhapsody, someone will come along and change music forever and It won't be the same old poppy drivel we are getting now. That's what I believe.
I think a piece of chewed gum has more potential, talent and intelligence than her.
So, yeah, my money's on the gum :D

No thanks

I despised Dylan before and I despise him a lot more now after his comments:

http://www.undercover.com.au/news/2006/aug06/20060823_bobdylan.html

If Bob Dylan thinks nothing good has come out in the past 20 years, then he's living in a fuckin' bubble. At least there are contemporary artists with the ability to write both decent lyrics and great music. Dylan can only do one of those.
Not only are you of feeble musical taste, apparently also of feeble mind.

Not only is Dylan well known (and has been since the mid-60s, so even YOU should know it) for making misleading, untrue and even completely ridiculous comments in interviews, as he both hates journalists and loves to make non-serious comments which then create an outrage (you're one of his prized 'victims', clearly), but this comment you refer to was, as you can see by the context, mainly meant to put into perspective Dylan's own work of the past 20 years, which was indeed very weak.

Having said that, you will have to admit that, although a hyperbole, he has a point: extreme amounts of shit have been produced by the music industry during the past 20 years. Even more shit than they did in the '40s and '50s, that is!
Good to have you back ThomasQuinn

haha! lol! XD i agree with you on that one. a decomposing piece of meat would actually have more talent than both (gum and heelton) combined.

They should open a myspace website, and become huge due to popularity via downloads, just like Dragonforce, for instance. Once people get to know you, the record deals will be there. Besides, remember how Queen had to fight for their first record deal? It's not necessarily bad to put a lot of effort in getting a deal.

But of course it sucks that some people get deals that easy, whereas the real talent has to struggle to survive.

Well, daddy's money... plus giving Rick Salomon head in front of a camera.

Paris Hilton has been rear ended so many times she should have handles on her back.

Oh yeah. How could I forget the other way to get a record deal....screw the guy with the authority to get you one. Thanks for the reminder, Dan.
I can think of so many other people who would do so much better given a record deal (including Bob and some of his friends, as mentioned earlier).
