Exactly. George Michael has the better voice, but I really cannot see him singing Hammer to Fall or Stone Cold Crazy - he has the wrong look for that too. Now his performace of SBTL at the Tribute Concert STILL brings tears to my eyes - he sounds so much like Freddie. To me, he is the only person in the world who can sing that song the way Freddie did.

AS the Queen + Paul Rodgers tour was a great success and well received, why would Queen entertain the thought of bringing anybody else into the mix? Paul only teamed up with them because the chemistry was there and it meant they could all play to the crowds they used to, instead of the small venues they all play solo.

For the sake of this thread though, the new album should feature Paul Rodgers on vocals, with vocals on some tracks by Roger and Brian, like the old Queen albums used to feature Freddie as lead on most songs, but the odd ones handled by Roger and Brian.

George Michael is a great singer, but not as good a writer as Paul for the sort of direction Brian and Roger would want to take, and not a good choice for rock songs like 'Tie Your Mother Down'. He also suffers from stage fright now and again, which is hardly ideal for fronting Queen.

Robbie Williams would be the doomsday scenario. He is a nervous wreck, is not a very good singer and a worse songwriter. It took him eight takes in the studio to turn out a crap 'We Are The Champions". It took Paul one live version of the same song to get him the job of fronting the band for a full tour. Class and crap.

George Michael is the only real logical choice. He would work for a lot cheaper. Plus, being on probation, there's no chance of him running out of the studios. He's being drug-tested as part of his probation, so that would keep his head right with ball. Plus George has only a couple #1s, and nothing lately, so no ego to have to deal with.

I would prefer Paul.

I would hate for Queen to "pull a Carlos" and do a bunch of songs with a bunch of different singers.

While George Michael did indeed do a fabulous job at the tribute with STL, it was dropped a half tone from Ab to G. That's part of the reason he sang it so well, because the original was out of his range. Personally don't like artists who change keys (Hello, Bono!) in a live setting.

He TRIED to front a very popular band once....and pretty well singlehandedly torpedoed their career.

I don't think George would work for a "Queen + Paul Rodgers" album...
As much as I love George, and would love to see him record stuff with Queen (yes, I DO think he can handle the 'rock' side), they are both off in TOTALLY different directions at the moment.

I'm not that impressed with George based on the few Queen songs I've heard him do. Paul has proven himself to be an excellent vocalist and I'm happy to see him continue to work with Queen.

Gary Cherone can't sing, he proves it singing Hammer To Fall at the Freddie Tribute Concert, Robert Plant is the same thing, he lost his magnificent voice, he can't sing like in the 70's.
