Bob, I think you're a bit arrogant deciding what people should listen to. It's not up to you man.
You know I respect you as a collector, as a musician and as a friend. But you're really freaking out on this subject.
If people want to listen to mp3 because it's more convenient. (You just have to accept that it is convenient: you can listen to it on your mp3 player, discman, dvd player etc)
If people prefer slightly less quality, but with a more convenient and universal file extention let them have their fun. Let them listen to their mp3's and listen to the flacs yourself.
It's not up to you to say that people who don't want flacs, or torrents or whatever just shouldn't listen to the music.
How would you react if people started to say that folks who listen to vinyl records should stop listening to the music, because they aren't listening in the best quality available?

If you think I'm being arrogant about this, then you must think every user at Dime, TTD, JamToThis, and BootCity are arrogant too, just because they have quality standards. Collectors want to preserve the quality of their recordings. It's as simple as that.
However, I agree, having separate sections for lossless and lossy would be a start, but it's not a perfect solution. It's a fact that because people here convert recordings to mp3, there are people who won't share their recordings with ANY fan of Queen. I know many of these people, and some of them have Queen recordings we've never heard of before. If you'd spend a lot of time in the wider collecting world dealing with people who care about quality preservation, you'd understand and agree with me. Queen collectors have a completely different mentality than most other collectors, and for this reason, our reputation is terrible.

That's different... once upon a time, vinyl was the best option. There has never been a time when mp3 was the best option.

Niek, I've explained numerous times why having mp3s in the trade pool in the first place are a problem in itself.

That's fine. That's their own choice because it's for their own private use. I'm talking about converting it again to share it somewhere. It's unnecessary quality loss.

i've been collecting queen stuff since 1973 and years ago the only trading was with audio cassettes,i think all queen gigs have been recorded using tapes so why not go back to dealing in tapes again.show me any queen gigs that were originaly recorded on cd's?????not one that i know of so no one is going to get the perfect recording of any queen show even queen productions can't get it right thats why they never released earls court officially or hyde park

Good observation, but still, we must remember that copying from tape to tape still loses quality. Converting from tape > WAV > FLAC is the best way to go, exactly as you did for the Robert Plant / Roger Taylor show.

It not hard to do at all.Those people will benefit from learning how to do it.They won't be restricted to downloading from this site only. I mean, someone like Andy puts out a FLAC recording from a master tape and it probably took more time to transfer it to digital and FLAC it than someone to DL it in FLAC and convert it. i think that's what this whole issue has been about from Sir GH. I think the less we talk about posting MP3s the more new shows we will see here.

This place has gone disgusting,I remember the days(and many would do it as well too)when people uploaded many things and there was the ftp server as well,and you always got a "thank you",now they are more interested in showing off what they have,in trying to explain that flac is better than mp3,that Paul Rodgers suck......
