I'd have to say Queen 2 has the bass whcih is hardest to hear, which is a pity becuase it has some great bass on it. I think this is mainly due to production quality, not the fact that they wanted subtle bass.

Most Queen albums could have been mixed better I think. But alas, its the arrangements of most of the earlier stuff that makes it so special :). Although, I would have definately re-mixed "The Works" right away!

Someone suggested most of Queen's albums are not mixed well. I concur. Just yesterday, I was listening One Vision in my car, and I was thinking how silent the bass drum is. The same goes for hi-hat. I think one of the reasons ANATO is so good is because mixing is well done. You can really hear bass, drums (with really deep and strong sounding toms), hi-hat, cymbals, guitar...
Another thing I noticed is Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy's very 'silent' or low level sounding. I always have to bring volume up for this song (no matter the source: LP, CD, mp3)...
It's unfortunate they deprived us of some really good music due to bad mixing.

yes definetly on certain albums queens bass and drums are very quiet but my original question was whcih album has the quiestest bass.
all the albums have great bass it must just be the type of souind system u are using as there are all excellent on my sound system just invest in a good system
no, ive got a good system, but the first to albums particularly are mixed badly and the bass and drums are depe in the mix.

queen II is not mixed badly..it is meant to sound that way...where there is a need for deep bass you can hear it well - father to son?
as for queen I - it was recorded in studio downtime..ie when the big bands weren't using the equipment...and i love it because of it's raw feel..think i have said this before...but here goes...most bands first lps sound raw....take oasis def/maybe...it lacks feel and bass, but makes up for it in raw energy
the albums that should sound good bass/drums wise that done't are HS Works and Magic...too many synths and not enough real bass/drums

Not really,I am basing this on the original VINYLS(sound is lossy on Compact Discs, certain sounds cannot be replicated from master tapes). So there is nothing wrong with the sound system, we are talking about the mix of the album, and how much better it could have been mate. Sorry if this sounds rude, it isnt ment to :) Just informing you
