I bet mp3 improves the sound quality over flac (in this case anyway) because it removes a lot of the tape hiss.

Mp3 doesn't remove hiss. Where'd you hear that? Compression adds digital noise, which is sometimes bad enough that it overtakes the natural tape hiss.

Most ridiculous post ever.
Most ridiculous post ever.
Thanks Andy,
although I can't help but add my hope that you'll make the non-MP3 version available by whichever manner suits you best (trade/torrent) at some point.

One final thing and this is on no way intended to get your back up and more than it maybe already is.
Could you perhaps post a 128/44 version (higher than 128 would obviously be preferable) if you don't want to make the lossless available?
Again, thanks

you are the kind of fucking idiot only found on this shit board.
Mp3 only degrades sound, and if to your ears mp3 sounds better, do no spread fucked up shit like "it removes hiss".
Just say i post in mp3 cause i'm an idiot that does not know shit, and we will be ok.

Boo hoo. These flac masters are so upset that can only resort to demeaning my intelligence.
Let's examine the facts:
GH stated that the 96 kbs mp3's of Bristol 73 and Portland 74 concerts shared by Andy are the best versions he heard.
Andy stated these concerts sound better as lossy mp3's than as lossless files.
These concerts have a lot of high frequency tape hiss. However, mp3 removes a lot of the high frequencies (including the inaudible high frequency harmonics) in order to reduce file size.
I look forward to the flac masters questioning my intelligence again. The flac masters could easily disprove my wind up pretzel logic, but they are much better at looking down on those who legitimately choose to listen to and share mp3's.

There is no way that converting to mp3 improves the sound quality of a file in any way. Period.

DUE TO MY TAPE DECK FUCKING THIS TAPE I CANNOT NOW DO ANYTHING WITH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You have a tape of this show, right? Okay, you converted the audio files to mp3, right? Okay, mp3 is lossy, right? Okay, that means the quality decreases, right? Okay, if you converted the tape to FLAC, that means the quality will be better, because it's lossless, right? Okay, so what you say is utterly crap, right? Okay.
Thanks a lot anyway ;)
Thank you very much, andy1962!
Great! Cheers M8 ;-)
