i know this was a tribute to freddie but what do you think of her performance of we are the champions.

at the end of the song everyone on the night joins in and that is great

also her performance of this song is a lot different to any of her work and work written for her
you can be anything you want to be just turn yourself inot something you think that you can be, be the great pretender with your tempo
Well... Liza is Liza. The woman, IMO, can't sing, but I love her anyway, and I'll always listen to her, hoping...

But you know what else? The low notes were clearly too low for her but if the key were changed, I dont' think she'd be able to hit the high notes. I'm not a singer though I'd guess Freddie's impressive range and power is what makes his songs so much harder for the so-so singer to pull off.

JMHO.

Kudos to Liza for trying.

Liza can't sing? That's like saying, I know it's your job and you won an academy award for what you've done, but I don't think you can sing.

Hmm...

Adam.
Absolutely atrocious... but as Brian said, Freddie would have liked it.

The crowd saved the performance by singing with all their hearts and souls, and giving Freddie a more than well deserved farewell.

Okay, let me rephrase - I get nervous when Liza sings. I'm a fan of hers, love her, met her in person and had a wonderful (brief) chat with her. However, I'm never sure how she's going to get through a song. And her performance of We Are The Champions was not her best.

Liza Minelli?

Hmm... I think it sucked.

Wish I could remember where I saw this - but footage of Liza rehearsing it - and Brian there. His mouth is in the shape of a smile, but OMG his eyes! ROFLMAO!

What a day. I remember being there and thinking she was a let down! Although after standing up for 7 hours I was beyond caring. A day of rollercoster emotions............
"....you don't get that on X-Factor do you"
Well it was... kinda Hollywood, a lot of Vibrato and pretty theatrical. And she missed the beginning of the 2nd verse. But it was okay, and fitting as Freddie admired her. And I'll never forget Brian introducing her. He really seemed to be overwhelmed by his emotions. All in all it was really great to see this showbiz superstar performing WATC. Sinatra woul've been fab as well... ;-) But as Roger Daltrey said: "No-one can do a Freddie... " Especially Champions.
Guten Tag und Guten Abend !!! We had a great time in Cologne. Drinking beer in the sunshine beside the Mighty Rhein brought back many memories for me..... (Brian May, 2004)
Well, Liza's style of singing is.. I dunno, jazz singer/nightclubish. It's not for everyone, that's for sure. But she was there doing her thing because Freddie adored her and that's what matters.

Perhaps her interpretation was a bit odd.. a sort of hybrid or something. I don't particularly care for her singing either but I love her.

I've seen so many interviews with her and she's just a one of a kind entertainer, has a wicked sense of humor and is sharp as a tack (even today, after years of drug abuse).

I think she's a better actress than singer, and I believe this is what she says about her songs.. she's acting them, not singing. It's a performance to tell a story, not a vocal exhibition :)

So it was perhaps strange for a rock concert, but you can imagine how thrilled everyone must have been that she wanted to be there, and maybe she wanted to do that song, and how could they turn her down?

Off the top of my head, I can imagine her singing 'My Melancholy Blues' would be ABSOLUTELY perfect.. but maybe it wasn't offered up. Who knows?

Besides it became a massive sing-along and was all about the spirit of the moment so it ends up working anyway, I think :)

she sucked, like must artists did that day
:)
I thought she was, next to Paul Jones, the worst performer of the evening. Actually, no... Paul Jones was even better than her AWFUL cover.
What did Paul Jones sing?
"Build your muscles as your body decays!"

Better yet, who is Paul Jones?? Maybe you meant Paul Young?
