I love this album!
Amy Lee's vocals are amazingly good, and the songs are less suicidal but still quite dark. Unlike their previous work 'Fallen', this album sounds less like Linkin Park, and more like a heavier and more haunting version of Meat Loaf.
Along with Muse's 'Blackholes & Revelations' and Stadium Arcadium' from The Red Hot Chili Peppers, 'The Open Door' grabs a spot among the best albums of 2006.

Mm, I have to say I don't really like /that/ style of music but I'm quite pleased with that song of theirs...Ring Me When You're Sober or something to the like.

I like Evanescence/Amy Lee but i don't think the last album is of the same quality as Fallen. Especially not worthy of the best cd of 2006 title. :P I'm VERY disappointed in them. Ben Moody was a very important person in that band and when he left in 2004 they got very repetetive.

I thought they were repetitive in 'Fallen'. The majority of songs were a "crying out for help". Perhaps that was the actual concept, but although the musical aspect was quite good I don't think I could stomach anoher "save me" from that album.
I was very skeptical about the outcome of Evanescence next work after the departure of Ben Moody. I thought that the album might either suck or be of slight less quality from 'Fallen'. From many aspects I consider 'The Open Door' superior.
Just for the vocal performance of Amy Lee, 'The Open Door' deserves enough praise. Personally I consider the music itself just about as great as her vocals.

Aamof, my first impression from "Fallen" was so strong that for these months I've been afraid about what their new one would be like without Ben Moody.
Well, my first impression from TOD was not so strong compared to "Fallen", i.e. I think "Fallen" has more songs that are easy to remember for the listeners and are easy to sing along for the audience as well, even though some sound haunted. Although the new one mostly sounds less haunted, I think they have succeeded in making another darker and heavier feeling and making use of Amy Lee's taste for classics.
As Mr. Jingles already wrote above, her vocals are worth listening to. Yeah, sound greater actually.
p.s. I do hope they will tour to my country in the near future.

Amy Lee is a great singer with an amazing range, but I'm not a huge Evanescence fan (I used to be, and when I buy their new record I'll probably get sucked back in) and I probably won't buy their new album for a few months. I'm too preoccupied with buying a Queen shirt and The Game.
I'll always adore Amy. :D
