Just when I think I surely must have seen all of the photos of Queen over the years, dozens more new ones pop up on different websites. I am amazed with how many costumes they had, especially Freddie, of course. Did any other band even come close to their costume creativity?

David Bowie comes to mind. He had a WIDE variety of costumes.
Fuck the costumes
When I go to see a rock show costumes are the least of things. That's what I liked about Kurt Cobain, he went on stage dressed up like the average young kid and not a pompous rock star.
Freddie might have been one of the exceptions to artists who worry way too much about what they are going to wear in stage, and it doesn't affect their musical focus. For instance, it's hard to take Lenny Kravitz seriously when he's way too fuckin' concerned about how to look like a fashionable pimp.

Well, Queen wanted to not only put on an audio show, they payed a lot of attention to the visual part, and it worked. The costumes were just a part of that.
How can you ignore Elton John?!?
And from my perspective, Elton and Freddie wore many costumes that were so ridiculous that they detracted from the quality of the musical performances.

Oh, yes, of course, Elton John!
Most times when I listen to a Queen cd rather than watching a dvd about the same song, I hear "more" when I am not so visually engaged.

Yes they did dont forget U2 people
I like early Aerosmith costumes especially Steven Tylor's colorful costumes made of sheer materials. He looked cool in those ones in his young days.

Except Kurt Cobain must have spent too much time contemplating suicide instead of making good music.
