Wow Chopin1995! You lovely person!. They played two nights. I went both days to hang out at the side door waiting for the band to arrive. I was 15. I was there with three friends and we joined a group of about 100 other fans waiting. The band arrived at about 17:00 for sound check and my outstretched hands briefly touched Freddie and Roger. Freddie was a lot shorter than I expected. I guess I was expecting a collosus of a demi-god. I bought T-shirt outside the venue. It was black with the silhoute of freddie from 'Live Killers' in white. I loved the T-shirt even though it was not official. I thought the official Ts were a bit boring. On the second night one of my friends lost his ticket outside the venue and was so distraught that the guy on the door let him through. It was a different time and people generally believed people in those days. So we got in. Our seating was four rows back on the balcony just above Freddies piano. Newcastle City hall had a capacity of about 2000 so it was quite an intimate gig. I felt like I'd been waiting my entire life for this! The band were on fire. I was transported. When I got home, I lived in the next town, I sat up for an hour telling my Mum all about it..... it was the best night of my life at that point.
Thank you! It was great to read!
1. 'The band arrived at about 17:00 for sound check' - This is interesting bit of info.
2. 'Freddie was a lot shorter than I expected. I guess I was expecting a collosus of a demi-god.' - A lot of people seem to mention this fact!
3. 'It was a different time and people generally believed people in those days.' - Sad but true. I live only 22 years in this world and it's hard to imagine that I could go to Queen concert nowadays without showing the ticket :)
