I'm pretty consistently amazed that groups like a-ha and Garbage and singers like Lulu (who-o?) were called upon to do Bond themes, but Queen never got a chance to. Personally, I think that if they'd been called upon in the late '70s or early '80s (Duran Duran's theme from "A View to a Kill" sounds about as close to Queen as Bond themes got), they could have pumped out a great song, one of the rockier ones, maybe one to rival "Live and Let Die" as, in my book, the best Bond theme yet.
But what would it have sounded like? I've always thought that the music from "Princes of the Universe" sounded like it could have been used as a Bond theme with slightly different lyrics, as could "Innuendo," which is what I think any Queen Bond theme would have ended up sounding like.

All the Bond themes have always sucked, and they always mark the worst part of the movie with their obscure intro videos. I am glad that Queen has never had anything to do with it.

Plus, I think the orchestrator is always the same man (john barry? or the other bloke), who has same sort of "final cut" or final saying in the end result. That's one of the reasons why all bond themes sound like.. well, bond themes! :)
As for Queen doing a Bond Theme, I believe it would have sounded great, but I don't think they would allow other musician to have the final cut in one of their songs.
BTW, today is the premiere of this new James Bond. Anyone knows who does the Bond Theme for this one? Well, it can't be worse than Madonna...

I'd bet money that this new Bond guy is not in another Bond film. He's got a face like a busted arsehole and about as much charisma as a hole in the head.

Daniel Craig is signed to do 3 Bond films. The next one is scheduled for release on November 2008 (originaly it was May). Casino Royale has had great reviews and has topped every country's box office where it's been released, except for the USA, were it was narrowly beaten by Happy Feet (40.8 million dollars versus 41.5). It's not so much of a surprise since Happy Feet is much shorter and it was shown in more cinemas than Casino Royale.
Bond is back for good with this one, let me tell you, hehe :). Craig's portrayal of a more down to earth 007 is the closest to the novels we've got and most people (on 007 forums I read) think this was the best debut of a Bond actor and that Daniel is the best Bond since Sean Connery. Think again :).

I was actually thinking earlier today of e-mailing Brian's site to ask if Queen had ever been approached about doing a Bond theme or if he had ever had any interest in doing one. I imagine it would be cool to have that classic Bond theme coming out of the Red Special. Queen and James Bond are both sort of iconically British, so I would have to think they would be two great tastes that would have tasted great together.
And, crap or not, I loved Die Another Day and I thought the Madonna song was terrific - much better than those lackluster songs by Sheryl Crow and Garbage. The Chris Cornell song from the new movie is no great shakes either. Dunno about Craig cuz I haven't seen the movie yet, but he looks alright to me.

I actually enjoyed watching Die Another Day on the cinema and it was a lot of fun. I used to defend the movie from friends who thought it was too ridiculous by saying that it was James Bond's response to movies like Triple X, which said that this new world was not for lame and stiff agents like 007. I saw it for what it was and enjoyed it. I actually didn't like Madonna's song as a Bond theme at all but that is personal taste. Good to listen on the radio but not on the titles of a Bond movie, for me.

I liked the movie, I liked the fact that it was based on an original Ian Fleming novel, I like the fact that this James Bond is a thought motherfucker and I can't wait to see it again when it premieres here in Mexico (saw it in McAllen, TX last weekend).

I most certainly did not prefer Die Another Day! To be honest I've no real preference for any of the Bond films (and I've seen enough of them). This new guy just doesn't come across as remotely interesting; in this movie, or any of his others.

All the same... it doesn't make it 'right'. Independence Day made enough money, and that was probably the most putrid rotten mess since those guys tried to get that dead whale off the beach using dynamite!
