How to tell a winner.

What is a winner? What is the difference between a winner and a breathing, mortal person? Grand! But I’m unsure of why. Maybe it is because there isn’t too many of them. The winners.
I chose this subject because I’d like to think a bit closer about what the characteristic of a winner is.
You see, I don’t feel like one very often. Specially not right now, because I’ve just got my heart broken. In my head, there is nothing like an unrequited love if you want to feel like the greatest looser on the planet! Therefore it would be my pleasure to think closer about people, who used to be loosers, for the next hour and a half, and in that way maybe gain in some hope and confidence. God knows, I really need it.

When people say winner to me, ironically the first thing that comes to my mind is sports!
I hate sports, because that sure is one thing that I’ve never been good at! In fact, if I had to play soccer against my five year old cousin, he would win in the matter of no time! Not that I’m really bothered by it. That is one point where I take the ‘loosers glasses’ on, and say “well.. I’m sure that there’s someone out there who is worse than me, and you can’t be good at everything anyways!” At least, the author of the poem would call that a loosers way of thinking. But even though I don’t have the hearts for sports, I still admire people that do. Like the guy I’ve made up, and is about to describe:
When I think sports winner, I think back to The States in the seventies. I think about a black sweaty American football player, running yard after yard, with a little leather ball in is hand, chased and attacked by his competitors, and screamed at by the audience. But he still keeps on running. He shakes off the attacks, he ignores the audience screaming “BOOOO!! NIGGERHEAD! GO BACK TO AFRICA!” at him, because he only has one thing in mind. Get the ball past the goal line!
And he makes it! He gets the ball past that cursed line, knowing that this is making a difference. Not only is his team mates hugging and cheering the last energy out of him, for winning the game in the last second, but he had was also just been a little part of proving that black people can be just as good as white people. He might have got shot of some racistic inbreeded prick after the game, but his actions where still there, and nothing that might happen could take that away from anybody.
THAT is a sports winner. They can be so good and great and brilliant, those people like becham, or Ronaldo, but they aren’t winners in my eyes. Because they don’t make a difference with
The game. And normally, I don’t think you have to make a difference to be a winner, but in sports I do. Maybe because I think it is so stupid that it needs something extremely important to make it worth caring about.

Another kind of winner, is the author of the Harry Potter books! She started out as a poor single mum, who got a weird idea in a subway train, and is now a billionaire after having just finished her book number six. Pardon me, but I find that extraordinarily, if not tremendously, lucky! If someone wrote about such a situation in a book, it would go straight from the publisher to the Science Fiction shelf. And what wonders me even more is, that she was turned down by five maybe six, publishers before she found someone who would take the book. Because I did say that she was lucky (that is not worth to discuss is it?), But luck didn’t make her way alone. I’ve read all of her books, and they honestly make me doubt that the publishers has actually taken the time to sit down and read that firs book! They’re excellent! They have been written with so much passion and focus, that they almost glow, in a fantasy loving readers eyes! What makes her the winner in this game is hard to say. But one of the things is that she didn’t just give up after being turned down several times. She kept on fighting, and I thank her for that!

My last winner for now, is my fa
