woe

Does anyone know if "woe" was the working title for a song on ADATR? Prior to the album's release, Circus magazine wrote about a song called "Woe" that had multiple overdubs. Thanks.

The Prophet's Song is from A Night at the Opera, but has a lot of overdubs and many "oh oh"s and "wo wo"s. I'd bet that's the one.

This was definitely post ANATO, pre ADATR, I'm thinking it could have been "Millionaire Waltz" or "Somebody to Love"

Could it be, and I'm just guessing here....a magazine printed something inaccurate?

No it was straight from the horses (Brian's) mouth> He cited a song named "Woe" they were working on as an example of how the guitar overdubs were starting to get ridiculous. Has anyone ever asked him, I imagine someone would've so I wont bother to.

I think it's a working title. Cause it doesn't make sense to record a song full of overdubs, and then don't use it.

I always assumed it was a working title for The Millionaire Waltz.

All the quotes I've read about it could easily be referring to that song, being as it was the song with the richest production on ADATR.

Could be the name for the intro/outro of the album, you know, the Escher-esque staircase thing.

Can anyone post the quotes concerning Woe?

I pretty much agree with Bohardy. If you consider some of the more sombre portions of TMW, the working title of 'Woe' would seem to be fairly appropriate.

Here is the quote from the article in the 1/31/77 circus. ...the Anglo-Japanese "Let Us Cling Together" (which may well be the most difficult mix of our career, except for Freddie's "Woe"). Mercury's "Woe" has a ludicious amount of overdubs, "the multiple guitar thing has reached rediculous proportions" according to Mr. May.
It might be the working title for "Millionaire Waltz" because most of the other Freddie compositions on ADATR are mentioned elsewhere in the article.
