The Kite Runner, Discussion Thread

'The Kite Runner' Discuss:

It's a novel by Khaled Hoessini about the friendship of two Afghan boys named Amir and Hassan. It's fiction but gives a gritty account of life in Afghanistan in the 70s for the Hazaras (Hassan's people) as illiterate low-caste servants, and of the turmoilpresent-day Afghanistan is in (albeit a few years out of date), with the Taliban in power. The novel covers so many aspects, friendship, betrayal, coming to terms with mistakes, not to mention the brutal rape and murder in Taliban-ruled Afghanistan.

It's a wonderful book, although it gets very graphic at points. It was one of the best books I've read in a long time, possibly THE first book to make me think outside the box! If you haven't read it already I'd thoroughly recommend it, if you have you can disuss it here. I'd like it if I could discuss it with some of you here.

So it would have been published quite a bit before that in America I presume...

Yep... about October I read it...

My parents had heard great reviews, they read the book, enjoyed it very much and gave it to me.
