Saturday night Mary & I hosted our 3rd annual "Satan Got Run Over by a Reindeer" party, this time also celebrating the fact we recently bought the house. So around 2 or 3 am, about a dozen of us in the living room started to watch <Milton Keynes Live the Bowl>, spellbound by the mighty Lord Calvert and his accomplice Cherry Coke, conducting a chess tournament.
Then, as "Action This Day" came on, Mary broke out fresh hors d'ouevres -- mushroom caps stuffed with basil pesto and a slice of gruyere cheese on top, all warmed in the oven.
By the time "Staying Power" arrived, I was deep into preventing the march of the black queen against my ragtag forces. Stupid Lord Calvert gave me bad advice, and his cowardly manservant Cherry Coke ran away.
Fortunately, the game did not bite the dust. "Back Chat" occurred when I boldly captured my opponent's queen, and was then informed that my mother had a pegleg with a kickstand, in a polite tone of voice. We all laughed, and Lord Calvert was reintroduced to a new, improved comrade, 7UP.
Steve walked warily down the street as I turned up the heat during "Another One Bites the Dust" and promptly my foe gradually experienced "Sheer Heart Attack." The princes and princesses assembled watched gleefully as Lord Calvert returned to his ivory tower in the kitchen, and everyone retired to the bar in the basement to see if one of his cousins lingered... :)
