My question is this: do you believe in the Tarot? I could say I do, because I've come to realize as I read more and more on this subject and in the cards that the cards never lie. :D I am also waiting for rationalist-pragmatic-material points of view dissing me and pulling me around in the mud. And I'd be rather happy if the people decide to stay on-topic.

Hi Sonia. Although I'm interested in occultism, spiritualism etc. I have come to an end that it is important to have a focus on 'our life here'.
The statement "cards don't lie" implies that cards have a knowledge we don't have and also are able to make a choice to tell the truth about this knowlege or not :) I do not believe that is the case. Cards are just pieces made by people who had certain ideas what to put on the cards and assigned a meaning to the pictures. I don't believe they can tell me anything about my life or future.

What you name here is more of a simplified summary of I Ching; I Ching is 'the book of changes', and uses chance (albeit not COMPLETELY random chance) to create a pattern of continuity and discontinuity, which can be used to make predictions, though this is a very dangerous thing. What it CAN be used for as well, is for instance what Philip K. Dick did in his books: he used the I Ching to create the plot-twists in his works.
As for Tarot. What I'm about to tell you is a very short, extremely simplified version of what is going on:
In short, the Tarot represents a library of ancient Jewish (mystical) knowledge. It was by no means intended to predict the future or anything like that. In the Tarot, Qabbalistic astronomy (not astroLOGY) and knowledge of the make-up of the world is stored.
This does not mean that it cannot be used to 'foretell the future', but that is a different story: the charlatans who think they can tell your future usually can't; they believe each card has one or more specific meanings. kewl!!! kewl!! :D Well, I bought a couple of books, but here it's rather difficult to locate good books, but I found some kinda American or English book, which is very good and complete. I've been also looking online. I have only started with it a couple of months ago, and we're doing a lot about the occult and Alchemy at school. :)
