Why did Freddie in most of his songs use half of the stand to sing with?Sorry if it has already been asked.
I think the "story" goes something like... he was performing in the early days and he went to pick it up and it broke and decided to use it as his "gimmick" or whatever.

There's a quote on the topic that's something like, "Everyone needs a gimmick, dear."
It was his "royal" scepter. It gave him a certain authority. ha.
Cool, but if it was a gimmick why did he use it all the way through the Magic Tour?
He originally wanted to use the whole mic stand but when he went to pick the whole thing up the bottom fell off. Since then he used his mic without the bottom. His reply to why he still did it was, as Charles said, 'Everyone needs a gimmick dear,' :P
Times were tough when they were first starting out and Freddie could only afford half a stand.
He lost the big half. Couldn't find it for years, and it was a constant embarrassment for him. As a consequence he wrote "Bohemian Rhapsody" not about AIDS, as many people think, but about his lost mic stand.

Queen ran a competition right up until 1990 to find the missing half of his mic stand; when they cancelled it, people began suspecting something was wrong with ol' Freddie.
Because tah other half of it was missing ya.
And All I Can Do Is Surrender.
You guys, be serious. The truth is that in the early days, a half-stand was cheaper. Thats why Brian made his own guitar and John built Brian a cheap amp. To save money.'
The first album was recorded around other bands schedules in a new studio to save paying for studio time, and the album was called just 'Queen' to save money on the ink.
He thought than in the years to come he might end up doing a video where he could use it as a sword to fight Christopher Lambert so that he wouldn't lose his head. So he wanted to make sure he was used to a half mike stand.
Death to Rapidshare. Long Live BitTorrent!!

LMAO....
I like all your stories, lol.

But the real story is that it broke off during one of the Wreckage concerts (or was it Ibex) when he wanted to pick up the full stand. And their roadies tried to fit the two pieces back together but they couldn't do it. So Freddie used the half stand instead and started to do what he still did 18 years later
