I don't think it would be a good idea. Maybe he might resemble Freddie more than Johnny Depp, but he'll probably fail to put on a convincing portrayal of the late rock legend. Johnny Depp is talented. He's not the best actor ever, but he's the most talented one of his generation. I remember reading somewhere that Queen was one of Depp's favourite bands after the Rolling Stones, so...let's see. Nothing has been confirmed yet, so why is everyone jumping on wagons? Johnny Depp has to agree to the proposal first, and I haven't read anything about the biopic starring Johnny Depp from any reputable source. If someone can provide me a trustworthy source for the claim, I'll be glad to take back what I said and jump on the bandwagon too. :P

No way!!! My vote goes to Eddie Murphy :P I don't know... everytime I see him I think about Freddie... :) Maybe it's the moustache....:)

He is a talented actor, but, is not even close to look like freddie

I wish they pick someone who can bring the magic on the screen... at least Mads Mikkelsen looks better than deep..

I find it disturbing that there are a lot of people that want someone that resembles Freddie. That's not smart thinking. Their acting and personality for the role are key. And heck, if you're worried about looks, make-up can help transform that person into another.

Agree sir GH, thats what i like of Queen in the first place, they did wherever they want, they were politically incorrect... they were definitively the most refreshing and unique band in the rock world...

Thats what they deserve a movie where the acting and the script shows Freddie's legacy , and not where the leading actor's name is more important that the final result

He definetly looks most like Freddie in this photo. While watching Casino Royale, I did see some similarities between Mr. Mercury and Mr. Mikkelsen.

So, now you don't want the guy you recommended at the top? Ok. But don't you think it's too much to ask for someone with similar looks AND origins?! Ain't gonna happen. In the looks dept., yeah, maybe. But origins?? Freddie was that much of a one off to make that impossible.

I agree they should be an unknown. But as long as they can pull off a character like Freddie, then I'd be happy. That's why I wasn't totally against Depp, because he is a good character actor.

For me, the excitement of having Johnny Depp play Freddie is Depp's fan base. Just think how many people will go to see this movie if he's in it. Just think how many people will be introduced to Queen for the first time because of it... because of him. Roger and Brian's appearance on American Idol seemed to boost awareness of Queen. Can you imagine what a star like Johnny Depp can do for the Queen name?

Besides, IMO, Johnny Depp will put everything he's got into the role, making even the most avid Freddie fan forget s/he's watching someone other than The Man himself.

...all right, that last bit is a stretch, but I do think Depp would be a great choice.
