Having actually held one of Freddies harlequin costumes in my hands I'd love to know where it is today. Being a kid at the time I didnt understand the magnitude and value of the thing.
My cousin was a friend of the woman who ran the fan club during the early to mid eighties - might been Val or Jacky, don't know. He was a frequent visitor to their offices and often brought back memorabilia.
He told me how he gave it to his now ex-girlfriend who hung it on her ceiling!! Fantastic. Wonder where it is now? Anyone?
I remember he showed me some of Roger more trendier 80's shirts and how he sometimes wore them at the gigs themselves, mad! He gave most of them away or sold them for a pittence years ago while Queen were still a touring band - he's still sick now thinking of the nice retirement to could have had.
I'll have to get him on to QZ to tell some of his stories from his days as part of the Royal Family - some of them are wonderful ripping yarns.

don't ask me where she got them from - she's known to many of queen's former roadies and has LOTS of really rare stuff in her collection..

Once upon a time I bought off of ebay this Bonhams catalog (#1793) auctioning Rock and Roll and Film Memorabilia - the auction date being Tuesday 16 November 2004 in Knightsbridge, London.
How sad is that to see Freddie's beautiful outfit without him in it?! The description was: "Freddie Mercury's stage costume, 1980s, comprising a bright yellow jacket in military style with multi-buckle fastenings and a pair of white trousers with red and gold piping, lower left leg with pocket, together with a statement of provenance. L8,000 - 12,000 This distinctive outfit was worn by Freddie during Queen's sell-out 1986 'Magic' European tour. It also made an appearance in the video for the 1989 single release, 'The Miracle'."
Why would Freddie want a pocket in the lower left leg of his trousers? I've read that the costume was sold for various amounts, one being L26,290. (I don't know if that is correct.)
The photo was described: "Denis O'Regan: Freddie Mercury, St. James Park, Newcastle, 1986, a large photographic print sealed in UV film and mounted on a thin aluminum panel, signed by the photographer and numbered 1/10, 183 x 122cm (72 x 48in) L500 - 600 The first concert of the band's 'Magic' tour, 7th June."
Wouldn't you love to have that picture?! It differs slightly from this photo/pose http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c138/carboengine/afmj2.jpg as in this one Freddie's body is more rotated to his left. His white trousers on the top of his thigh above the stripes isn't visible, and the right side of his jacket front isn't as visible. I wondered why I had not seen this pose in the Wembley dvd - it didn't happen there.

Does anyone know how many yellow jackets there actually were? There had to be more than one in case of spills, rips, other damage, drycleaning time, loss. Somewhere I read that Freddie, when he was offstage, would sometimes strip down, get wiped off, get dressed in the very same outfit, and go back on stage looking all neat and clean.

The magic tour outfit was sold by Jim Hutton at auction for 23 grand I believe.

If I remember correctly Freddie's yellow jacket was sold at auction about 2 to 3 years ago. Sotherbys I believe did the auction and an unnamed private buyer snapped it up.

Jim Hutton and House sitter Shaun Matthews ”removed” it from the Garden Lodge premises on March 1, 1992 before probate was signed off on, May 13, 1992— along with many thousands of dollars worth, of Queen/Freddie memorabilia....
which is very strange given that all assets we're supposed to be frozen and nothing was supposed to be removed from the house until May 1992.
In November 16, 2004, Hutton later sold it at Bonhams for over $34,000. Coincident my, I'm sure, about the time a statute of limitations kicked in.
A fan bought it and it is reportedly loaned out to exhibitions on occasion.
