Finally a RED SPECIAL!!

Yeah. You could do it either way.

Ive got the '06 Red Special, and its my baby, but Ive had moments of frustration with it.

Using my little marshall amp I cant find a pickup setting that gives me a fair balance between rhythm and lead - its always good bottom end, with weak high end, or not thick enough, but a decent high end, so I usually settle for a good rhythm sound, and whenever I have to play lead with my band I crank the treble up a bit.

You need time to play with the pickups and with bass/treble/middle/contour controls and suchlike on your amp/pedal I guess, and I dont have much of that at the moment!
Or maybe I'll just cop out and get the BM pedal....lol, or not. I have no money!

Also, I actually find it harder to play than other similar priced guitars such as my friends PRS Santana, which confuses me. I think its cos the strings are slighly higher, and the neck wider.
When I lower the strings though, I get a horrible vibration on the low E.....

Also - when I change the strings the bugger goes out of tune every 10 mins for weeks.
Anyone know a solution to this last problem in particular? I know you have to wear strings in a bit, but this seems a bit bizarre - maybe its cos I took the tremolo off?
The strings were Super Slinky 10's I think......if that helps!

Nice one on getting the guitar - take no heed of anything I said above - those are most likely problems peculiar to me, and even so, I love the thing - when she's on form she sounds beautiful, and she's a sexy beast too! Beautiful looking piece of wood!

If you're recording into your computer, all you need is a line input (NOT the mic input) and your digi brian plugged into it. The software would just be something like Audacity. Free software that does what you need.

thanks adam, i do have adobe audition and i love it... just didnt know if there was nething out there specifically for guitar... cwazy i have the factory settings still for my guitar. The strings stay in tune and I love it. I find that a perfect lead is middle and bridge pickups in phase, also great for rythm if you have trouble finding that. I also love all three pickups on with the middle and bridge in phase and the fingerboard out of phase... it really gives it a trebly sound with no base, great harmonic setting. I believe brian plays alot with the middle and bridge pickups out/in phase. I know for a fact that with the mid and bridge settings out of phase, was used on bohemian rhapsody. I love tinkering with the digitech pedal too. It makes the guitar sound SOOOOO much better i must say. Let me know if any of this helps

Uhm... bridge and middle is NOT used for BoRhap solo - I believe it's the neck (down position) and middle (Up) pickups. Others seem to think it's neck and middle both out of phase. I did a sound sample to test this idea here - http://www.savefile.com/files/531161


You have adobe audition?? And you're asking if you need something specific to record guitar? Dude...you have everything you could possibly want if you have that software. Just need yourself and talent for recording with a digi brian cause it's a DI device.

Bridge and middle out of phase is what you use if you want to play Dead On Time. Or Led Zeppelin.

About Brian May giving me a guitar. Haha... Thats funny! He's a cool guy and all, but I doubt he'll even see the email. Not too mention he probably wouldnt believe it either. haha ya... well i recorded we will rock you... http://rapidshare.com/files/19902069/wwry.mp3... it actually sounds different on my computer because i have the red special and digi pedal going into guitar port to record... then i play out through guitarport again... soo if you have guitar port and use that device to play out of the speakers on your computers... it will sound like it does to me... its not a HUGE difference but you can tell a bit of a difference... anyways this is my attempt at brian's classic on my new guitar

If the guitarport is adding anything to the sound, don't use it at all. Your soundcard, provided it isn't budget basement, should be all you need. The Guitarport is for your guitar isn't it? Rather than a line-in sound which is what will sound best from the Digitech Brian May.

Also worth noting is that the ac30 amp simulation CANNOT be removed. No matter what output you use, it will always be there.

well what exactly do i have to do then... because to get my guitar to play through my computer... i use guitar port... i have no choice.. what exactly should i do?

Do you have a soundcard? If so, you plug a stereo connector between the Digi and the line-in of the soundcard. If you don't have a soundcard (in this day and age???) your guitarport is all you have, I guess. If that's the case, my advice is to get a soundcard cause you can get a nice Terratec for around £10-35. Nothing, for such great sound options.

That is...if you want to get something with options.

I looked into getting a friend in the UK to ship it to me, but it would cost like another 500-600 dollars...which i also can't afford.

So i will have to make do with just a plain borning guitar . I envy anyone that has one.

haha i have a soundblaster audigy zs 2 soundcard lol i think that comes standard with all computers... well what connectors do i need then because obviously we all know we can plug a guitar cable directly into a computer sound card. At this point and time my set up goes as this: guitar-to-digitech pedal-to-guitar port-to-usb. I guess what im asking is how do i get the set up as this: guitar-to-digitech pedal-to- computer sound card directly. But another question is does the second set up offer any amplifier simulation? guitar port provides me with options of ac-30 simulation... is there something... if not guitar port... to give me an AC-30 Simulation??

Last time I'm saying this cause this'll be the third time and you still don't see what I'm getting at and I really don't know why that is. It's not rocket science... lmao

And forget plugging a guitar directly into your soundcard, I'm not even going to begin to tell you why that's a stupid thing to do.


Now, you have your guitar plugged into the Digi unit -> take the mixer out option (with a stereo cable) and plug that directly into the LINE-IN port of the soundcard. That's it. Nothing more needed.

And listen...about this amp simulation thing. Again, you amaze me on this one. I already said on the previous page that the Digitech provides the ac30 simulation because...dum de dum dum dum DUMMMMMM! It's Brian's signature pedal! The GuitarPort is useless because that's effectively getting in the way of what the Digitech pedal wants to give you. So, using the guitarport is messing up the whole affair because it's adding something that isn't needed.
