there's been so much talk during the last couple of years about special releases....ie GVH3, live stuff from 70s and some box sets or rarities.
there are only three real reasons why these won't see the light of day:-
1. there is only a limited market in their release...and the current queen product is not as valid as it once was...take away a "living " presence like FM and your "news/front page worthiness has gone....and with it much of your market...if you ain;t front page news...then people forget about you
2. BM wan't only his current stuff out there...ie Q+PR - the older queen stuff only clouds the issue....
3. I think Brian possibly sees himself as some kind of modern day Pharoah...he's had all his wprldly goods labelled, ordered and archived...and it's all going into the pyramid with him when he passes on to the next world...

This is bullshit! Brian is not a "pharao", he's a perfectionist and his opinions about quality may varies with the opinions of the fans! And there is a marktet for "old" queen releases. In my Country, (and I think in many others!) the "Live at the Bowl" DVD stormed the top ten shortly after release!
Other Bands doing well with selling their older stuff; Deep Purple where never as huge as Queen, but their "Sonic Zoom" label runs nicely!

Ultimately the best time to release the rarities (in some form of box set), was after Made In Heaven - the entire catalogue had been digitally remastered and re-released, opening up a new generation of fans possibly.
Instead the Greatest Hits 3 album was produced a couple of years as a simple moneymaking scheme, as opposed to giving fans what they wanted.

No, the best time to release the "archive releases" is after Brian and Roger decide to hang it up as a touring/recording act. The vault audio and video is the last silver bullet in Queen Productions money-making arsenal, and from a business standpoint, they'd be stupid to let go of their last trump card when the band, in whatever form, is still a viable touring and recording act.
I had the perfect idea for releasing the archive stuff that they wouldn't otherwise think there's a market for. Have it made themselves and sell it through the fan club or the QOL shop.
But nobody listens to my brilliant ideas. And Brian is a jerk about such matters :-P

All the albums were then remastered as if we didn't have them already.
Queen Rocks
The Japanese mini-vinyls were then released as were the first eight albums aimed at the North American market which were released in a box also.
Oh yes the Platinum Collection was next to be released.
For me the release of the two Hits DVD'S and Live at the Bowl have been the only worthy releases in the past 16 or so years since Freddie passed away.
We also bought the Freddie Solo Box Set which was supposed to contain everything by Freddie that was in the archives - But no Michael Jackson songs and at least another five or six demoes which have since come to light.
As someone suggested earlier why not release them to the members of the fan club.
In my mind the band are missing out on a lost opportunity, no pun intended, in the amount of concerts they performed and luckily for us were filmed.
Why not release these concerts as they are obviously enough in 5.1 surround sound. Keep the bonuses on the discs to a minimum to save time and expense and release them.
I am not saying that I would buy every single performance but there would be at least 20-30 that I would be interested in.
For fucks sakes there are other bands out there that I like also and they have released box sets containing lots of rare stuff like the Bon Jovi - 100 Million Fans Can't Be Wrong set which contained around 40 or so previously unreleased tracks.
Come On Brian and Roger it's time to think of the long term fans and the people that followed you from the very start. Give us what we want to hear.
Looking forward to the box sets in the next decade or so.

You're conveniently overlooking one very important point, mate. Yes, many concerts were filmed, but how many of these films/TV recordings are in a shape, worthy of a proper DVD release? Rainbow 1974 was fine and dandy for a VHS release, but DVD is a whole different ballpark. What would be the point to relese Rainbow on DVD in plain old stereo? That's what you'll get if it gets a release at this point. But who knows, in a few years technology might allow the film to be properly restored and the audio remixed in glorious surround sound. As it's meant to be seen and heard. Perhaps for the 40th anniversary of the show :)

I agree with saving the box sets for after the band has hung up their gloves. Then the Queen Machine can go out with a Big Bang.
My guess is that Queen will release the archives promised via bonus discs accompanying rereleases of their 15 studio albums.
Another advantage of releasing them at the end of their careers is that they can include any unused Q+PR songs too.
