Not a big fan of James Brown, but he had some great songs indeed and he was an awesome performer.

I'm more of a fan of Motown artists like Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye. I'm also very into Brit soul/pop acts like Simply Red and Sade and I have all their albums.

Wow, Innuendo, you really are a weird one. Who listens to soul these days? I don't like soul music at all. I love David Bowie and Rod Stewart but I don't like their brand of "blue-eyed soul" either. I especially hate that Seal dude(the guy who sang "Who Wants To Live Forever at the FM Tribute Concert), he ran off with Heidi Klum. :'(

Let me suggest a title for your next topic "rockabilly music", keeping in sync with your endless topics about music genres no one listens to nowadays.

Just because you aren't into soul doesn't mean the rest of the world isn't.

And although Seal's WWTLF wasn't very good at all and his music only appeals to a small group of people (me included actually when it comes to 'Crazy' which is very good)his running off with Heidi Klum bears no relevance whatsoever to the quality of his music!

Don't compare these days "soul" to stuff from the 60's & 70's.. Back then, Soul really rocked! Or would you say that Destiny's Child is R'nB???

Anyone found using the term 'R&B' to describe anything that is NOT Rhythm & Blues (i.e. someone using it in any of its 'modern' meanings) should be judicially beaten up with a live-sized wooden model of the Destiny's Child member of their choice.

What's the difference between contemporary R&B and hip-hop?

Absolutely nothing, the only difference is that the R&B performer sings and on hip-hop performer raps. Nowdays every single fuckin' song has to be a combination of both, hence why there's always that:

( R&B singer ) featuring ( rapper ).
