Hurray for Yngwie Malmsteen!
So anyway, Eddie Van Halen and Yngwie Malmsteen...

Thanks to my brother's Napster subscription I finally got to hear Mr. Big's first 2 albums and Extreme's first 3 recently. Good stuff. And yeah, I know Gilbert really rips it up in Racer X.
Mr Big's third (Bump Ahead) and fourth (Hey Man) albums are great too.

I don't like the post-Gilbert stuff. Love Richie Kotzen though... but love the OLD Richie, when he used to shred outstandingly. Not the "new" one... the bluesy country rock one.

Whoa, that was a quick reply. :)

Yeah, I downloaded Bump Ahead yesterday. I'm not listening to it until I burn it to a CD, though. Stupid computer rearranges the tracks into alphabetical order...I want them in the original order damn it! I'll probably end up DLing all their albums :)

You don't like any of the Kotzen stuff? What about "Shine"? That was the song that really turned me on to Mr. Big, when I was watching Hellsing on the action channel and they played it during the end credits. Also, I first heard Eric Martin in the Spider-Man game for Sega/Mega CD when I was a kid. Of course, I was young and didn't really care about music back then. The song isn't too good either, but I like the guitar solo!

What a great group. Such a shame that they never hit it big here in the US. I can't find their albums in any stores.
Yes, I like Shine =)

I guess we all like Shine xD

Brian May obviously,
Jimi Hendrix
Steve Vai
Joe Satriani
Tom DeLonge
End of discussion!
I'd listen to most of the guitarists mentioned here...

But I still think Dimebag probably had the coolest accent.
I'm a bit surprised Matias was the only one who mentioned Jason Becker. He was a brilliant guitarist, and as far as I'm concerned, he's still an excellent composer.

I don't know much about him and I have barely heard anything about him, but the Guitar Player Magazine (brazilian edition, of course)mentions him all the time. He's not very well known among brazilian people in general, but among brazilian musicians he's probably the most admired guitarist.

Only if you're deaf. You named some fine players, and missed lots of fine players. To name but a few:
Gary Moore
Ritchie Blackmore
Jimmy Page
Carlos Santana (so it's just major scales...he's good at it!)
John McLaughlin
