ugh..
I've had one of my worst weekends since a long time. Last Saturday I almost lost my mind. I train/coach a youth football team (15/16 year) and we hadn't lost a match since December 2005. We topped the table, with three matches to go.
But last weekend it went all wrong. We played against our neighbour town, and that team was determined to beat us. Nothing wrong with that. But the referee was determined to see us losing as well.
Anyway, we started the match and played really badly. I guess that was due to the pressure of the upcoming championship. So our opponent took a 1-0 lead. In the second half, I switched to a more offensive formation (3-4-3), with good result. We made the 1-1, and that result would have been good enough for us. But from that moment, the referee started to irritate us more and more which, at a certain point, was the reason of a little fight between me and the assistent referee of that other team. Anyway, the matched went on and one bad moment in our defence caused the 2-1. With 10 minutes to go, I told my boys to give everything for a draw...... we kicked off, and the referee blew for the final whistle... I WAS SO MAD... we still got 10 minutes, but the referee "felt threatened"... yeah right.
Some players guided me as quickly as possible to the dressing rooms, because some people of the other team kept saying nice things to me which almost made me lose my mind. But without me, there were some nice fights on the pitch between players, parents and the referee..
A female player of my team (15 years) got slapped twice by the assistant referee of that other team, and the girl called the police for that. We're going to make protest, but it's unlikely that it will bring us somewhere. So we're all equal now in the competition. We can't do anything but cleaning the wounds, and concentrate on the next two matches. We have to win them, and then we most likely get a play-off with the other leader.
That match ruined my mood for the whole weekend.

Well, the youth matches are led by so called 'club referees'... So yeah, I'm quite sure he had a thing for that other team.
