First, I'll call 0.999... "y".

y = 0.999...
10y = 10(0.999...)
10y = 9.999...
10y - y = 9.999... - 0.999...
9y = 9
y = 9/9
y = 1
...as we called 0.999... "y",
0.999... = y = 1

The second way is:
1/9 equals 0.111..., so...

0.111... = 1/9
9(0.111...) = 9 x 1/9
0.999... = 9/9 = 1

That's exactly what I was going to say.[/QUOTE]

That makes 2!
I got to try al little more, because I'm an asshole but I'm learning. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfTLkUcQ7QY
Pfft, I'm sure there's more geeks/nerds here than you can poke a protractor at!

Me.. I subscribe to the geek sector. Mmm, how I love my polyhedral dice. Plus one time... I wore a trenchcoat in the rain!

(not really!)

okay. i'll challenge the geek.

find the possible value(s) of x.

6x(x - 4)+16=-2

note: i solved it myself. it's answerable! :)

6x² - 24x + 18 = 0
I dunno how to make the little triangle on the computer, so I'll call it "Raf".
Raf = 24² - 4(18)(6)
Raf = 576 - 432
Raf = 144

x' = (24+12)/12
x' = 3

x''= (24-12)/12
x'' = 1

S = {1, 3}

I hate you for using such big numbers. And now that I finished it, I realised I could've made it easier since the beginning, as all the numbers were even. >.<'

wow. geek!

well, i do have another way. :)

6x^2-24x+10=0
(3x-9)(2x-2)

3x=9; therefore x=3
2x=2, therefore x=1

:D

good job, nerdy geek!
