Now that's what I call fascism! Junk or not, creative writing is creative writing, and falls under freedom of speech, especially when justified by context such as this!

That's ridiculous, but I'm sure the courts will come to a reasonable solution.
So this one time, I went to the Kendall Hall auditorium where George Carlin was performing this past week, and I brought with me a USP and a MP5. I just unloaded on everyone in the auditorium screaming, "George Carlin sucks!" I don't know why I did this, because I actually really like George Carlin. I decided to prove how much I liked him by having sex with his barely recognizable corpse, and ingesting his liver.

If anything is a 'knee-jerk reaction' this is. They're afraid they'll be held liable should something happen and it's shown they didn't pull this kid because of his essay. There's no comparison between him and the Virginia Tech shooter, but they're covering their asses just in case.
I'm a writer. If the FBI looked at some of my writings and research notes, they'd lock me up too. Without cause. Such stupidity. Sadly, I'm not all that surprised.

"Don't censor" was the teacher's instructions.
What was the teacher thinking? He obeyed. The poor kid got screwed because of Cho. Really, the kid does not seem sick to me. He wrote to draw attention to a teacher with an attitude, complained about the school drug program, and rebelled against the requirement of 4 years of english in high school while requiring less math and science classes (No wonder the USA is becoming "A Nation of Haircuts").
Sure, the kid used bad judgement, but the over-reaction toward a straight A student with no previous problems, who wrote about a made up dream and did not censor himself per the irresponsible teacher's instructions, is ludicrous. ... and the Marines revoked his enlistment without due process ...
