this will keep you occupied for 5 minutes.

an armed force consisting of exactly 1000 men lost several lives in a battle and the survivors surrendered before being marched off to a prison camp.On the first day's march one sixth of the survivors escaped;on the second day one eighth of the remainder escaped, and one man died of his wounds;and on the third days march a quarter of the remainder escaped. When they arrived at the prison camp the rest were set to work in four equal sized gangs.how many of the original 1000 men had been killed in the battle?

you have one week to give the correct answer.
have fun!

damn this is hard...

wait.. 5 people are left

equal sized gangs of 4...

so 2?
It only talks of several lives + one man who died from his wounds. The rest escaped

So whatever One+Several is is the correct answer

ok, 4 gangs the same size total 3 quarters of the people who started marching on day three. Add one and you have 7/8 of the people who started day two who are themselves 5/6 of the people originally captured, which was a number less than 1000.

72 in each gang, 472 killed in battle.

5 minutes. Next!

To be honest, I roughly managed to think properly about the question. I'll write it down and work on it later today. :P
