Seeing as how this year is the 25th anniversary of Hot Space, I thought I'd upload the electro remix of Back Chat from my mix archives.

The idea behind this one was inspired by a comment of John Deacon's where he said he did a more sparse version of this song with just synthesizers. But when Brain May heard it he insisted on laying his guitar all over it.

So here it is with all the instruments taken out then more synthesized electro instrumentation put back in. It's Hot Space in 2007, dedicated to Mr. Deacon for all his top tracks over the years.

Can I just say...

...holy !@#$%!!!

Nice work!!

How much trouble was it to isolate Freddie for that one? Because it sounds like you've got him acappella for 90% of it, but that may be clever (and I do mean clever) mixing tricks!

This one's going on the podcast...whenever I get around to it :)

Thanks for uploading! Always interesting to hear different instrumental arrangements.
For me a little too much synths, but anyway well done work!

Excellent mix! Very original work. Yeah, post some details. We'd love to know about it.

Agree that some of the synths were very full and up-front. Was the vocal a center extractor thing from AAud?

Love it! I can only hope John is lurking round queenzone and finds this! Freddie's vocals are perfect for this song and they seem to stand out even clearer here. I'll keep a lookout for any other Hot Space mixes you've done!

Yep!!! Very well done!!! you know, you guys (the fan mixers) turn out better work than the official re-mixes cds, (i.e. the last Freddie "Lover of Life, Singer of Songs" cd)
Thankyou, Keep up the good work!!!!

Strong......

Well done.
The Golden Gate Bridge should have a long bungee cord for people who aren’t quite ready to commit suicide but want to get in a little practice.

Great work as always! :o)

I often think it would be nice if 'the powers that be' were to hear some of these fan mixes, as most of them are real 'labours of love' by dedicated fans (as opposed to specially commissioned professional remixers).

(as opposed to specially commissioned professional remixers, WHO NORMALY COCK THEM UP).
Most of the "Fan Mixers" Mixes are 10 times better.

Wow thanks for the encouraging feedback everybody! Certainly makes the hours spent twiddling away at these things seem worthwhile.

Hey ern2150 and everyone interested in the technical aspect: I used the 5.1 mixes of 'Back Chat' from the Greatest Hits II dvd. This isolated Freddie's vocal with drums and guitar. I used Audition to remove the vocal but couldn't get rid of all the instrumentation particularly the drums. The trick was to cover the drums with a pattern which matched the original drums. Also where the guitar completely covered the vocal, I had to use parts of the demo version of the track. The background 'back chat' calls can be isolated 100% from the 5.1 mixes. I used time stretch to line up the vocal parts with the new instrumentation I created using Fruity Loops.

Great fun. I'd love to do some other tracks this way, maybe 'Calling All Girls' in 5.1 and 'Staying Power' which I don't think exists as 5.1?

Thanks.
