On the evening of 24 November 1991 I only half payed attention to the television news announcement that Freddie Mercury had died of AIDS earlier in the day. Not having been a Queen fan, this loss to the music world meant nothing to me. In the days which followed however, highlights of Queen's career hit the air featuring songs from the eighties and from 1991 which I had never heard before. Immediately hooked by the greatness of the material, I was astonished that Canadian rock radio stations had ignored it. Having bought almost Queen recording in the years since, I still have trouble believing that the band received so little airplay in this country after their initial 1970's success. As someone who now readily admits to Queen being my all time favorite band, I would ask every Canadian rock listener and radio program director to turn their attention to all of the domestically "undiscovered" music released by this phenomenal group. Further, I would ask Queen fans generally to research the members of the band to find out how interesting they were and still remain. For example, while most of us are aware that Brian May designed and built his own guitar, how many do not know that drummer Roger Taylor was once on the verge of becoming a dentist or that Freddie Mercury never learned how to drive? Cheers everyone. Freddie may be gone but we can take solace in the fact that the music of Queen lives on and that the world had such an unparalleled rock and roll band.

My dear Freddie. Here I am writing to you again. I love you to bits!!!!!It was such a priviledge for me to be able to hear a voice like yours in my life, though only 9 years old when I first heard your songs, I knew I was listening to something special, to someone who was unique and from then on I never looked back. I always hungered to hear and to see more of you. Today I am celebrating this fact, the fact that although only for a few years, you have been lended to us to broaden our lives and to brighten our days. He was the greatest showman with the greatest band. There will never be another. He had the greatest voice in the world, and he sang beautifully everytime, especially towards the end of his life on 'Innuendo' and 'Made In Heaven'. John, 14 Glasgow, Scotland
