Queen At The Ballet is Coming to Dublin’s Point Theatre, July 2006!
Not since Mama Mia has a musical taken the Southern Hemisphere by storm. An overwhelming 48-piece orchestral ensemble will bring the legendary music of Queen alive with classic hits including Bohemian Rhapsody, Radio Ga Ga, Barcelona and other favourite Queen songs.
Bovim's stunningly athletic and technically challenging choreographical concept dynamically replicates Mercury's zest for living which is masterfully interpreted throughout the entire show.
The ‘rock-ballet’ is the biggest Queen event to take place in Ireland since the band played to a sell-out audience at Slane Castle in 1986. In a bizarre co-incidence, Queen at the Ballet’s arrival at the Point Theatre comes twenty years to the day after that memorable gig in the County Meath village.
Irish businessman and Queen fan Chris Goodey decided to bring the cast of the show to Ireland after seeing the incredible reaction to the spectacle whilst on a visit to South Africa.
He has invited Nelson Mandela to the opening night in Dublin and is donating more than €10,000 from the show’s proceeds to the Nobel Prize-winners charity foundation.
“This event has captured the imagination of the public in South Africa so it made sense to bring it to a wider audience.
“It has wowed those who had no previous interest in ballet but has also been praised by those who are really interested in dance and musical shows. And of course, it has been very popular with fans of the band Queen because Freddie’s songs are the basis for all the storylines,” Goodey explained.
Freddie Mercury’s vocals are reinterpreted by Duncan Royce and Luciano Zuppa who add their own spin to the show by performing live amongst the dancers. Who Wants to Live Forever introduces poignant moments, while the anthemic We Will Rock You will draw spontaneous audience participation. A glittering finale of the show-stopping Barcelona turns Queen at the Ballet into a brilliant theatrical experience.
Brian May, John Deacon and Roger Taylor have been invited as special guests for the premiere on July 6th, to open the show to a 3000-strong audience.
This show is not to be missed!
