'I'm Mr. Mercury' has arrived on Wembley Park's Spanish Steps, ahead of what would have been Freddie Mercury's 80th birthday this Saturday.
Wembley was one of Freddie's great stages. With Queen, he made rock history here at Live Aid in 1985, before returning for two sold-out @wembleystadium shows in 1986. By then, Queen had already played Wembley Arena, now @ovoarena, 10 times from 1978.
For this tribute, Wembley Park has joined forces once again with Frank Styles (@faostyles), whose 'Auras' tribute to Taylor Swift became a global sensation in 2024.
Look closely and you'll find koi carps, a nod to Freddie's love of Japan, and fairies representing his Virgo star sign, the same symbol he incorporated into the @officialqueenmusic crest he designed himself.
The portrait only works from one spot. Stand on the yellow marker, 65ft back, and Freddie snaps into place. Move away, and the image scatters again.
Take your time on the way up. Across all 58 steps are lyrics from songs Freddie wrote, alongside his own words from beyond the stage. Together, they tell something of both the private man and the artist the world knew.
