Sure I do like the lossless shows better, but that's not the issue. When I'm having my birthdayparty I like it best when people bring me some nice vintage brandy. Nevertheless, I am also quite happy with a sixpack of beers. Let me try to translate an old dutch saying: One shouldn't look a horse, that's been given to you, in the mouth. Another one: Hunger make raw beans sweet....

But the insistence on trading MP3s is what's causing the hunger. Sir GH replied, maybe on this very page, maybe in the thread he linked off of this one, that at least one trader with an uncirculated recording from 1976 has refused to trade or share it because "someone from Queenzone will make an MP3 of it" (almost a direct quote).
What I do, and what I suggest everyone who wants MP3 audio of shows should do, is download the FLACs and convert them to MP3s for personal use, then DO NOT DISTRIBUTE the MP3s you've made. If you intend to continue distributing the show, either keep the FLACs on your hard drive, or burn them to backup CDs, and share those. Sharing MP3s is keeping shows out of the QZ community. It's not a case of "hunger makes raw beans sweet," it's a case of that stupid McDonald's down the street keeping Morton's from moving in next door.

You don't understand my point. I don't prefer MP3. But when for instance Newcastle '79 was shared here in MP3, I was thrilled. When the FLAC-recording came up leter I was thrilled again for the better sound. I'm just glad when a fine show gets shared here. For instance, I would like one of the ANATO-shows of autumn '75 to be shared here (or reseeded). When it's in flac: great! When it's MP3: fine too. Just wanna hear them.
If I would make a trade it's a different story of course. Then I would insist on lossless, but this board is about sharing and beggars like me just can't be choosers, can they?

at first I have suspicion in my eyes when reading about someone who have something tasty or rare in his collection and would trade this if there won´t be some facts like bla...bla... .
If there wouldn´t be a connection to Sir Bob I would say forget it, because so often in these days there were people who know somebody who has a sister with a friend who know's a woman who's daily guiding the dog of a guy who has Sunbury '74 or whatever. But that´s not the point!
I'm agree with the dutch man that it is a fine thing to have a new concert even when it is an Mp3-format. That doesn´t mean that I spread the recording until Timbuktu or elsewhere. The argument of personal use is absolutely wise. But if I try to copy the music of a silver-boot (yes they still exist) to my desktop, I get only the mp3 format. Or is there a way to bring that files to a lossless flac experience?

Wouldn't you prefer to have 5-30-77, 10-9-81, 10-18-81, 7-21-82, and 8-9-82 as lossless copies? "Mp3 is better than nothing" doesn't apply anymore, when the alternative is readily available.

Audience recordings do not have the best quality as we all know so it is very important to get the best possible version. This MP3 sharing works against that. That's what some people on this forum try to say and I agree completely. Now, bad recordings keep circulating which is very bad in my opinion. Why need chicago '80 in MP3 when there is a copy of the master available?

The only thing that confuses me in this debate is that I always had the impression that a lot of traders like to share in MP3, so they could still trade the lossless versions. I'm no trader, but I could understand that point of view.
