Thanks Pieter. Quite an interesting list.

shadysenator: As English is your second language I will forgive the spelling error: The correct version should be 'Possession'.

Unfortunately, The remainder of your diatribe is unforgivable.

Just how someone I do not know, becomes an expert in what I possess, is a complete mystery to me. Is this achieved with mirrors or wires, or is it genuinely a case of E.S.P?

Any good researcher will tell you that primary sources are better than secondary sources, and that secondary sources are better than tertiary, and as THE primary source in question - let me assure you (without turning this into a p*ssing against a wall competition) that I certainly DO own material which even Queen Productions do not know exists, nor will they ever hear.

If that does not qualify as anything special, then I guess you must be correct.
"Listen to them. Children of the night. What music they make."
Sorry - Double post.
Not my fault - honest!

you can't take it with you.
Darren, re:

If i was Brian May, i would think of the original fans that got him where he is today, money wise

>Greg , has given us an audio/video list of material currently in the archives, that's great but will the band sanction these releases, no because it's far easier to keep pressing old favourites such as Hits 1 and 2 which will sell millions every couple of years.

You say that with such certainty. Did we ever think that Milton Keynes would be released? On DVD maybe, but a stand-alone CD release was certainly a surprise. The FM boz was also something of a surprise too.

>Bands like Motley Crue re-issued all their back catalogue a couple of years ago and bolstered them with unreleased tracks/demoes etc.Fucking Brilliant, but will Queen,no, not while their Bank Manager Jim Beach is still involved

As did The Who, Jefferson Airplane, Free, Janis Joplin, Mountain etc. If Brian, Roger and John had the inclination and were to come to a collective decision to give the go ahead for ANY archive release, there would be little to stop it from happening. My guess is that whatever is around has been worked on and it's a case of literally opening the door to start the ball rolling.

The problem "appears" to be that theband themselves are wary of lettign anything out that can not be sanctioned by Freddie.

Put yourself in their position - they spent the whole of their adult lives making decisions about what to include on albums as a 4-man team. Sure they would have had input from other people along the way, but the final decision rested with the four. Now, they are faced with having to make the same decisions but without a crucial voice that was ever present, but is no longer.

It's like losing a leg - the rest of the body functions pretty well, but not fully. This is the same with the Queen Machine; they do certain things well, but others terribly.

We have our own opinions on what ought to happen, but there is nothing that we can do to influence the on-going business of QPL, short of no one buying anything in protest.

-- Gnomo (... any way the wind blows ...)
The list of what has been released over the last years would be much longer if one includes all the collaborations with other artists Brian and Roger have done. Creating a musical (there we go again) and getting it to theatres over the world, going on tour solo and with Paul Rodgers, writing material for the Q+PR album and filmscores, contributing to BANG!, finishing his PhD, appearing on tv-shows, co-organizing 46664 etc etc.

And even Brian has only 24hrs in one day.

Queen (or Queen-productions) were always very talented in delaying releases, first of all to try and make it as good as possible (I know, I know... some questionmarks could be placed here) or just to keep the Queen-machine active and on the move. And indeed, years go by...

But also, we are consumers. If one item is released we want the next one, without having digested the previous one yet... In 'the old days' we had to wait a whole year to hear something new from Queen where there was only vinyl, TOTP, radio and touring.

Every now and then something is released. Things has come and will come to the surface, I'm sure.

And if not through QP luckily there are fans and collectors out there really sharing material here.

Here is another misconception which needs to be finally addressed - that I am some sort of hermit who sits on piles of Queen rarities which will all be burned when I die.

The truth is, (as can be seen from the likes of the reply below), I am more than happy to help out Queen Productions. I have done so in the past, and I daresay, I would not mind doing so in the future.

However, most bridges are built from the sides into the middle, and if Queen Productions do not wish to return communication with me - then that is their prerogative - and there is nothing I (or we) can do to force them to think otherwise.

To show that this is indeed the case:
[QUOTENAME]Queen Archivist wrote: [/QUOTENAME]That’s why Golders Green isn’t on here, for example… because we do not have that show on a serious format - only bits of it, like you have, on cassette. We don't even have an LP, or CD or DAT.
As an addition: Golders Green IS available on serious format - apart from the FULL UNEDITED VERSION WHICH EXISTS AS A MASTER - the edited version also exists as a BBC transcription disc LP.

I know this for sure - as I have both the BBC MASTER and the LP versions - but as far as I am aware - Queen Productions are already aware of this.
So is this a case of BBC copyright - or does QP genuinely not hold a professional copy (or "...Serious format...") of this gig?

If it is truely the case that QP do NOT have a MASTER COPY', I would CERTAINLY OFFER IT UP - provided certain caveats were in place.
As a final example on this subject, please note how my mail on the last topic was the ONLY mail to be completely and discretely ignored.

It seems that many people, whom I do not know, and I have never met, already hold to pre-conceived ideas about who I am, or what I own, and that I have denied access to numerous Queen rarities.

Actually, nothing could be further from the truth.

It´s good to know this. I had the impression from other discussions that you wouldn´t guive the studio version of "Hangman" for the box releases.
I mean, if the Ibex tapes they´ve lost were mine i would probably do the same thing. But it´s good to know that you´re open to new colaborations, as long as they follow some lines to prevent the same thing to happen in the future.

Take care
I totally understand what Greg said in the beginning. That he cannot give information of the company he works for.
If Queen Productions decides that whatever is archived is secret then so be it.
And it's not fair to blame Greg for this.

The only thing that bothers me is that Queen fans must be one of the must unlucky supergroup fans on the planet.
Look at all the other supergroups, and see what stuff THEY released. And compare it what we have.

The Beatles had the Anthology DVD's. Probably one of the best documentary's out there.
It's about 5 dvds which, almost 100% focusses on the music of the band. Rather than on the private lives of the members.
They go back to the studio's, talk about the music, play music and so on..
It was a documentary which was made by the band, the story of the band by the band. As many other big artists also have.

And now.. What does Queen have? Nothing at all... Once in a while some strange filmcompany in Albania makes an un official (and bad) documentary.
The closest thing we had was The Untold Story. It was a pretty good documentary. But it didn't focus on the music.
It was only about Freddie's sexuality, aids, his youth and his parties.
Hello guys???? Thats not what I want to see... I becamse a fan because of the music, not because of Freddie's private life.

Most supergroups have had great re-releases. Queen's latest remasters (forgive me if i'm wrong) are from 1993.
Ofcourse there's nothing wrong with that, since they sound great. But don't keep re-re-re-re-rereleasing stuff thats already out there.

I guess we can't complain with our concert DVD's.. Thats pretty fair to say..
Okay.. they release Montreal 81 and Wembley '86 a lot, but who can blame them, those are the famous concerts.
Every band releases the most famous concerts.

Open up a random torrent website and look for Beatles outtakes. I have about 200 unique hours Beatles outtakes.
the Beatles excisted for barely 10 years. Queen was around since 1970.
All we have from Queen are about 15 complete songs
(I'm not counting stuff like the Miracle samples and stuff like that)

FIFTEEN!

And none of that was officially released.

Queen is one of the most collected bands in the world ever. Look at the most valuable items list in Rolling Stone and you can bet that Queen is up there in the top 5.
One of the most collected bands and they don't even have a boxset released.

No wonder everybody keeps recording the songs from conventions.
It has people talking through it, it's in bad quality, it has Mr Brooks talking through them but hey... At least it's something we didn't hear before.
And Queen Productions isn't putting it out.

I totally understand that Queen Productions doesn't like fans recording the songs from Greg's Convention sessions.
But if they really think about it.. They can't blame us, can they?
"On the first day Pim & Niek created a heavenly occupation. Pim & Niek blessed it and named it 'Loosch'." (Genesis 1:1)
Kudos Niek, Brilliant post.
MY GOD spell it write.
Cheers William!

I also want to reply to Rien. I saw that he wrote a few postings before me that Roger and Brian have been busy with various things (46664, study, musical, touring, recording, and so on) and that they also have 24 hours in a day.

I guess we all understand that, but meanwhile they DO release a Greatest Hits every now and then, so I guess they still do have some time to do that kind of stuff.
I don't know exactly how many work Brian and Roger have to put in making a boxset. But as far as I know they outsource work.
Greg checking the tapes, making selections, perhaps using the coffee machine every now and then. And a designer making the artwork.
Ofcourse Brian and Roger will have a saying in all this, but it's not that they have to do everything themselves.

Rien also said that something surfaces (I guess he means demos) every now and than. This is true ofcourse, but this is NEVER thanks to Queen Productions. It's always thanks to a fan that a new demo poppes up. When someone found an acetate, or bought a tape for example.

And still... When all the big collectors would share there outtakes collection it's still a mere fraction of the stuff that fans from other bands can get through official releases.

I absolutely agree - when the Making of ANATO came out I was so excited by the promise of various things. Yes, we got Brian singing Good Company, but when Roger started to play I'm In Love With My Car both on the acoustic guitar, and again along to it on the drums, we got a couple of seconds before it morphed away into the oriignal track, when there was so much more to show. Again, the Bo Rhap Story TV documentary showd Brian and Roger revist the studio, yet almost as soon as they started playing, the commentary came in over the top and that was it.

More music, (and a good breakdown of how it was recorded, mixed, various demos etc..) rather than the shagging and parties is what we want!

Hi there i'm in the same thought that when ANATO was being analysed i loved it finding out the techinques and how this album was made, and of course the brian/roger footage about bohemian rhapsody/good company/IILWMC i too was annoyed that after 10secs it goes off.

But i think that that footage will be seen in a future anthology type project and seen in all it's glory and that would be great to see, the date of this anthology project i think will happen in 2010 why? well we know queen release things on anniversary so it would be 40 years since queen formed and very apt it's only 3 years left to wait!"!!!!! aGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!.
Yes we'll keep on tryin we'll tread that fine line oh oh we'll keep on tryin till the end of time till the end of time.

Greatest Hits 1981
Greatest Hits 2 1991

Can't see why they'd use their 39th anniversary myself...
