Um... I wouldn't call that a "really reliable source". You have to take things into account - such as people's motives for speaking and how they perceive things.

Jim Hutton wasn't very fond of Mary Austin, but one shouldn't simply take his word for it.


He was human - good things and bad things, and I think it's much healthier to view him this way. If you don't, you're viewing an idol, not Freddie.

What rock star WASNT promiscuous back in the day...pretty much everyone, including the women, were promiscuous.

He was just stating a fact. He was not being judgemental. The truth hurts, but it will set you free.

I don't have an issue with the truth of Mr Collins' statement. I just don't think it was kind, or, necessary, to say it. Part of being a grown up is to know when to keep your mouth shut, and, I do think it would have been kinder to have said nothing.

I love Phil dearly, but on the other hand what he said was a bit snarky. But he said it, and it was true, even though I would have preferred he hadn't have said it.

You're right. It wasn't kind. But then, AIDS isn't kind, is it? Was it necessary for him to say it? Hell yeah. Everyone knows the name Freddie Mercury. He is the very legend he said he'd be. For that reason, I think it's vital that the cause of his death be put out there - repeatedly. AIDS kills. Simple. Stating without emotion the way in which he contracted the disease is not so much a black mark on Freddie as it is a red alert to those listening - REALLY listening - and not judging.

If a handful of people started practicing safe sex after hearing this, then making the comment he did was priceless.
