A question for YV......
If it crossed your mind that John Stuart did actually tend to mention rather a lot the seven year old episode of the lost Ibex tape, and it was your personal opinion that mentioning it again in Justin Leiter's 'Open Letter' to Greg Brooks, though it is not relevant at all to his Mott The Hoople program, was rather out of place and repiticious, WOULD YOU ACTUALLY SAY SO HERE ON QZ?
Would you ever actually admit something like... to be honest John, you do keep on referring back to that thing, and perhaps it's time to move on??? Would you heck YV. Not in this life time.
It's a fair point YV, but conspicuously you will jump to defend John and his copious references to that episode, again, but never see (or at least comment on) the other side... that's because the other side is Greg Brooks' side, and that's because I do have a good and valid point which I know you can see. BUT, because I make it in a mocking piss-taking way that throws scorn on ENDLESS harping back to an ancient episode, you simply refuse to be impartial once again. Nothing changes with you.
Why don't you say ALL that you think. Express your ENTIRE feelings on the matter. It's fine that you have a go at me and point out the errors of my ways as you perceive it, but be fair and balanced, and have the courage too to tell John that you ALSO have noticed he does mention this thing at least every month or every other month. You know it to be true, so say it.
Try being fair. I've said this to you before when you expressed only one half of your views in order not to upset one of your friends. I believe that like me and others on QZ you should have the courage of your convictions.
Now, right now, you will have a further pop at me rather than say, "True, Greg, I recognise that John does go on and on about that lost tape. Fair cop. It is tedious, I agree. JOhn, please stop going on about it because it's really old news now. Thank you mate." That would be such a refreshing change; you being completely fair and expressing here on QZ (for JSS to see too) the WHOLE truth, not just edited parts of it.
Are you big enough to admit the truth in what I say YV? Or even to see it?
PLEASE TRY TO OFFER A FAIR AND CONSIDERED REPLY. I don't think that's much to ask or expect.

I'd wager that John has mentioned this issue on no more than 4 separate occasions (threads, here or otherwise) within the last three years; which is hardly symptomatic of someone who "mention[s] a lot" or "keep[s] on referring back to" or makes "copious references to" or indulges in "ENDLESS harping back to" or who "mentions this thing at least every month or every other month".
Here's hoping the professional archivist can wade through the QZ archives and find some archival material worthy of release to the public to validate his, as yet, unfounded claims.

Look at it this way: rare Queen material has a greater value than just the songs themselves; they can be traded for other songs. John recently posted on here that he lacks a copy of Face it Alone. Perhaps he might have traded this tape for it.

Well, I think it is an over-reaction, but I also think that it is Greg's way of doing a bit of comedy here. Example: Mrs. Brooks's fictional conversation with JSS. Well, really the whole thing was meant to be funny, I think (I laughed), while making Greg's point (which is the same point he has made before, answering the same points that JSS has made before).
And then there is the subsequent over-reaction of those who feel the need to say much worse things to Greg than what Greg has ever said to JSS or what JSS would ever want to say to Greg. Some of the comments (not your comments) from those who are not Greg or JSS, I would consider to be vicious and mean spirited, much beyond what is required for the issue here (the compensation for the tape).

This is NOT about cassette tapes or compensation. Rather it is more about respect between the band and their fan-base, and certainly repect between QZ members.
Especially the lack of respect which eminates from certain quarters. I too can ask 'why must we all be involved with that negotiation...' Unfortunately, I am not the one who decided to air this dirty laundry in public.
As for you thinking that '...really the whole thing was meant to be funny', and 'that it is Greg's way of doing a bit of comedy here...', from where I sit, this seems a lot more like common schoolboy bullying tactics than a serious attempt at humour.
I am really pleased that you find the insulting behaviour of one member against another meets your criteria for entertainment, but, if that is 'your bag so to speak', perhaps you find poking school children with sharp sticks just as amusing?
