Well, I think it is an over-reaction, but I also think that it is Greg's way of doing a bit of comedy here. Example: Mrs. Brooks's fictional conversation with JSS. Well, really the whole thing was meant to be funny, I think (I laughed), while making Greg's point (which is the same point he has made before, answering the same points that JSS has made before).

And then there is the subsequent over-reaction of those who feel the need to say much worse things to Greg than what Greg has ever said to JSS or what JSS would ever want to say to Greg. Some of the comments (not your comments) from those who are not Greg or JSS, I would consider to be vicious and mean spirited, much beyond what is required for the issue here (the compensation for the tape).

The only issue of importance here is monetary compensation or compensation to JSS via an item that is rare. But why must we all be involved with that negotiation? That should have been handled privately a long time ago, I think. Or handled privately now.[/QUOTE]

With respect Donna13 - I think you totally miss the point completely.

This is NOT about cassette tapes or compensation. Rather it is more about resepect between the band and their fan-base, and certainly repect between QZ members.

Especially the lack of respect which eminates from certain quarters. I too can ask 'why must we all be involved with that negotiation...' Unfortunately, I am not the one who decided to air this dirty laundry in public.

As for you thinking that '...really the whole thing was meant to be funny', and 'that it is Greg's way of doing a bit of comedy here...', from where I sit, this seems a lot more like common schoolboy bullying tactics than a serious attempt at humour.

Well, I rarely miss a point completely, so I have to disagree with you, with respect, of course. No, it is not Greg poking fun at you in particular that I find funny. I wouldn't want him or anyone else poking fun at me, especially endlessly, and I don't think he should poke fun at you. If I could push a button and make him stop it, I would. Especially if it is taken seriously by others and is hurtful in any way to anyone (and I do think that the escalation of these arguments by by-standers here does become hurtful). It becomes like a bar brawl. Innocent bystanders getting chairs thrown at them and pushed out onto the street by the bouncer.

It is his writing that I find funny. When he goes on and on and repeats the same ideas over and over. To me this is like a comedian getting into a rhythm. It is hard to explain. Anyway, I knew it would be misunderstood here if I said Greg was funny. But everything here is misunderstood it seems. Except for purposeful comments meant to belittle others and shake their confidence. That is very clearly happening here. At least some of us (with common sense or a sense of humor) take Greg's comments with a grain of salt.

And no, I don't think poking school children with sharp sticks is funny or hurting anyone else on purpose is funny or amusing. My goodness. The things we have to defend ourselves of on Queenzone!

If the two of you could get your dispute solved in a way that would be beneficial to both of you, I would be the first to stand up and cheer.

I am not on either side, just the side of getting it solved without further insults.

Yes. I agree. But I don't know how they would put a value on something that was so prized. Anyway, that is why I brought up the idea of forgiveness. I hope that the two of them can figure something out (monetary or otherwise) that makes both of them happy.

i think you have missed the point. the tape in question cost John money to obtain. he lent it to QPL in good faith, THEY agreed to return it after copying it. they insisted on the original to make a best quality copy. they lost it. without John's goodwill the FM Boxset would've had a gaping hole. An agreement was made - end of argument.

- and Greg is behaving like a child. - most of his postings in QZ have been (at best) purile and (at worst) inflammatory. The ONLY piece of genuine information he gave us was something MOST of us could've worked out (by talking amongst ourselves) - the list of live film in the archives - and he even "gave" us that in return for loads of hard work by QZers.

Greg - if you really want to retain ANY dignity round here - then give John back his dignity. Stop baiting him and ask your employers to write an apology to John.
