I came across this interesting question while watching a special on World War 2 with my Dad on PBS....

When a man was drafted into the war, I'm sure everyone knows this already, but he was asked if he liked girls. If he said he was gay, he wouldn't be allowed to go overseas and serve. If he was straight, he'd almost certainly be sent to Asia or Europe to fight sometime in the near future.

So I wondered... what would people these days do? If you were drafted to fight in World War 2, would you say you were gay just to get out of what could very possibly get you killed? Or would you decide that fighting for your country was more important?

I cannot really decide... Saying you're gay if you're not seems selfish. Even saying you're gay when you really are seems selfish.

Ah, I was wondering what others would do; Doesn't have to be just guys. Girls should give their opinion as well. :o

I hear Jimi Hendrix did something like that. Said he started to fantasise about his fellow soldiers. Got sent home.
^ That's what John Densmore from The Doors did. XDDDDD

Even if I wasn't a gay man, I'd say I was and get the hell out of there. XD I think it'd be more selfish to avoid saying so and end up a casualty...

I don't see what's so selfish about going to a war that I didn't start, to defend a country that maybe I don't even like, for a cause that I probably don't even agree with. And with high chances of being killed.

I don't think I owe my country any kind of "loyalty". If I ever owe anyone loyalty, it would be my friends, wife, kids... And if you ask my friends and my girlfriend right now what they think of it, I'm pretty sure most (all?) of them will say they wouldn't be happy if I was sent to a brutal war like the WWII.

Anyway, judging by my looks and actions, I doubt they'd believe I'm not gay anyway. ;D

Gay any day!
Oh yes we'll keep on tryin'
How ironic! - this display of manly pride and power from our fellow male zoners! :P I understand the girls' point of view, but you guys? This just goes to show that modern tolerance does work its magic. On the other hand, if you were living during WW II and having the mentality of those days, you'd go live in the trenches for the rest of your lives, than risk your reputation and state you were gay. But then again I may be wrong...

Hm....I think I'd say I was Gay :P
The simple solution to preserve both your reputation and your life is to tell the military you are gay, but to tell everyone else how badly you fooled those moronic military suits.

I'd fight for Scotland.

Who's with me? Aye!
Ahhh...pussies...

im not a guy so maybe im wrong
BUT
i think

a] being straight and saying you're gay just to get away seems the lowest thing
b] being gay and saying it just to get away with its again damn low and all wrong

heck, its not something relevant for a war, gay or not;
what is it that one can do and the other can't?

id definetly go to war, just knowing others are there and they can die while im running away from it, wouldnt make me happy with myself.... but that's just me......
