"5<<>>greg brooks mentioned in here,2007"

i think he mentioned the audio, and the footage of the big screen (as in what we all have here already).

"13<<>> the very last queen concert with freddie"

i dont think They knew this at the time, to them it was just the last show on the tour.

Yeah, but it was still a ridiculously huge show (over 120,000 people). There are many bits of pro video from various angles, but not a whole lot. Brian said it wasn't recorded in full, so until he says otherwise, I think we should let it go.

With repect, I disagree.

I think Freddie knew he was seriously ill by this time (rumours began circulating in the UK 'SUN' newspaper as early as 1984), and that chances were, he would never tour again as he would not have the same stamina or energy levels.

Given that the other band members covered this up, publically lied, and rallied around him at his time of need, (all laudable and understandable) the truth as to whether they knew or not is debateable.

But my point remains the same.

Either Freddie alone (or with the rest of the band) must have known that this was 'possibly' one of the 'final' tours (if not THE final tour itself) - and as such, I would guess that they 'knew' Knebworth may have been their swansong.

If this is so - I too believe the gig would have been both audio and visually professionally recorded.

My own personal opinion is, that if this recording does exist, it does not stand up to either Wembley or Budapest, and as such will not be released.

I also think that however sentimental this gig is, it is at the end of the day, yet another 'Magic' concert, and commercially it would be stupid to release this at the expense of Rainbow, Hammersmith, Huston etc.

I hope Brian thinks the same but since he has mentioned Budapest as a future release, I don't think he minds "flooding the market" with Magic Years material.

Hammersmith 79 would be my top choice. It's got a lot of commercial potential. It's got as many hits as Montreal 81 and it's a better performance and overall show. Hope they get around to release it soon.

Although, since they are making the jump into High Definition already, I think we might expect Budapest in HD and BluRay before a Hammy release in regular quality.

I remember back in 98-99 there was another empty promise at the OIQFC Magazine. I believe a 3 live shows VHS collection was in the pipeline but was eventually shelved. That might have been our last change in getting Hammersmith 75 or 79, Houston or Hyde Park.
as far as I can remember, Freddie knew about his illness after the end of the Magic Tour, as the book "Mercury and Me" says. Maybe he was in danger of a HIV infection, but I think it was not proved yet.

What does this have to do with the existence of Knebworth?
It may have been in the back of Freddie's mind that something may have been wrong with him, but he didn't find out for sure until around Easter 1987. They knew they were going to take a break after the tour, but I don't think either one of them really had in the back of their mind 'right, this will be our last tour for sure...'

Little of that book should be taken seriously. It's nothing but Jim's bitter tirades.

Don't forget that Freddie wasn't a big fan of touring- healthy or not, and he said many times that he wasn't going to be touring as he got older.

There is a TV report about Brian's honorary doctor degree which features a shot from Knebworth that was never shown anywhere else as far as we know.
I do not want any google ads here.
