It was really the last part of this post that stood out to me. Basically saying that he should not post anything else on his site until the message gets through to people.

Ahh. Yeah, that kinda surprised me. My first impression was that Brian was kind of acting like a spoiled child, like regular readers of his blog will have to suffer because of horrific acts going on in the world. "I'm going to hold my breath until I get my way!" Something like that.
Then, I rethought about it less callously, and I realize that he just wants to try to make a difference in whatever way he can. Then I remembered that this is Brian we're talking about, and he can never stay silent for too long. Plus, if the press hangs onto his every word (for better or worse), chances are some newspaper will pick up the story rather soon.

Wouldn't he be better holding this all back and launching it at his new charges under the guise of his Chancellorship?
Preaching to a student body about the merits of saving Whales (a cause, incidentally, that I hold very dear and contribute towards in various ways) would have FAR more impact than anything written on his Soapbox could.

The whales collected by other nations, under the guise of, "research," all end up on the dinner plates of the wealthy in Japan. I suppose Japan is back to being more straightforward with regard to their long standing resentment toward the IWC.
This is just a bit more whale meat to go down the hatch of wealthiest population of Japan.
I do admire Brian for taking a stand, and, hope he is using his celebrity to great advantage...in other words, doing a bit more than making the statement on his site.

I think it's great that Brian puts that sort of stuff on his site. Instead of mindless promotion for something all the time or the odd appearance somewhere. He uses for a good cause.
