Regarding The Patriot (starring heath ledger), this is a film which is notable mainly for pretending that slavery didn't happen. Where exactly are all the slaves? Maybe they're hiding from "ze Englanders"? Mel Gibson plays Francis Marion, who hires blacks rather than owns them. In real life, Marion was a slave-holder and alleged rapist. When he wasn't making money off the back of slave labour, he spent his free time commiting atrocities against Indians. Ledger's part in all of this? He stars as a brave and innocent young American who is murdered by the troops of perfidious Albion (who, by the way, are portrayed like Nazis, burning down churches filled with American civilians, killing POWs etc. And this from a german drector too. Hmmm....)

Well... that's what a lot of people thought. In fact, I always saw him down to earth, so different from other actors, but well... those things happen even on the best families like some people say...

Steve Irwin was a noted environmentalist and conservationalist. While his hands on approach may seem rather coarse, he was hardly a terrorist, and had always put the interests of the animals to the forefront. He did the best job of anybody to expose a broad range of people to wildlife (many for the first time), as well as many conservationalist causes.

All Heath Ledger did was act in movies. If you take away the pretty face, I could find you a million actors that could do just as well. Oh, how society finds the strangest people to idolize...it is beyond me.

Steve Irwin died in a routine swim with a stingray, under the direction of professionals, doing what he loved and did best. Heath Ledger died nude on the floor - possibly...most likely due to his own stupidity and selfishness.

Steve Irwin exposed people to what wildlife looks like when it's confronted by Steve Irwin. It's like 'Jackass', only legitimised by the notion that it's somehow educational.
I never said his death wasn't sad, but let's not go making him out to be something he wasn't. He was more than generous when it came to funding and publicising conservation, passionate and idealistic.
He was *really* shit with animals on a one-to-one basis, and exploitative of them, and to be honest I'm more concerned with their welfare than with his.

It's just that good actors are rare. It's best explained in a line from Naked Gun. The mayor proclaims "You shot six actors - GOOD ONES".
I'm nothing if not a realist here, I know what Steve Irwin did and didn't do... at the very least, I know it as well as anyone who can be bothered to do a bit of research??
And it's always people from overseas telling me how great he was. Where is the logic in that??

Steve Irwin died most likely due to his own stupidity and selfishness. But since the video was erased, we'll never know for sure.

I think you'd have a little more credibility, Zebonka, if Steve Irwin ever did anything that was injurious to the welfare of any wildlife he encountered.

Good actors are not as difficult to come by as one would think. It is society's obsession with looks that keeps most of them from the top.
