New bands and other musical acts you'd strongly recommend

No offense to the users above me, but...

Muse: Officially active since 1997 (over 10 years)

Foo Fighters: Active since 1995 (over 12 years)

Green Day: Officially active since 1989 (Over 18 years! Nearly 2 decades!)

Those aren't really "new". ;) They may be having their biggest glories nowadays, they may be topping the charts nowadays - but Queen was topping the charts in 1991 and that didn't make them a new band back then. ;)

Having said that, I really like the Foo Fighters (even more than I like Nirvana, to be honest), and Green Day are quite enjoyable too! :)

Muse are talented, but for some reason I'm not really into them.

Much closer to crap than Zeppelin or Sabbath. I enjoy both of the bands in question, but I do find musical reiteration tiresome. Wolfmother and Withcraft can pull some decent tricks, and I have a sneaking suspicion that both bands have a spark of truly original musicality buried beneath their sonic hero worship. My 'Yum' represents the moments when these original moments shine through the tired soundscape (looking back I see that point was completely un-made in my post).

So yeah. Crap. But fun crap!

Liam Finn. He is the son of the kiwi great, Neil Finn (Crowded House, Split Enz). His debut album called I'll Be Lightning is kind of a mix of folk/alternative, and you can tell he's inherrited his father and uncle's talent because he sings and pretty much plays all the instruments on the album as well. Overall it's a really great album and one that is easy to listen to (but not like easy-listening mainstream crap).

That stands as the only new (and by new I mean came out 2007 and beyond) music I can say that I really, really like.

I went to see Rob Zombie last month when he opened for Ozzy and he ended up putting a better show than that old dope, even though Ozzy is the Godfather of metal and a wide catalogue of songs.

I just found out that Flogging Molly is an American band. All this time I thought they were Irish.

OK, for those of you who are into the contemporary alternative/indie scene I strongly recommend these two bands I saw when they opened for Muse.

If you guys love acoustic guitar virtuosity, this is for you. They're just quite simply amazing.
Rodrigo & Gabriela started out in Mexico as part of a metal band with poor luck getting signed, they decided to move to Ireland knowing that the Dublin scene had the doors wide open for new musical acts. Instead of following their heavy metal roots, they decided to go for an acoustic flamenco style, and the rest is history.

They are Irish American punk band. Dave King (singer) was born in Ireland, Dublin. They formed in USA. AWESOME BAND :D
