Who will participate? And what will you do during your hour of lights out?

From the World Wildlife Fund -

On March 29, 2008 at 8 p.m., join millions of people around the world in making a statement about climate change by turning off your lights for Earth Hour, an event created by the World Wildlife Fund - http://www.wwfus.org/.

Earth Hour was created by WWF in Sydney, Australia in 2007, and in one year has grown from an event in one city to a global movement. In 2008, millions of people, businesses, governments and civic organizations in nearly 200 cities around the globe will turn out for Earth Hour. More than 100 cities across North America will participate, including the US flagships–Atlanta, Chicago, Phoenix and San Francisco and Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.

We invite everyone throughout North America and around the world to turn off the lights for an hour starting at 8 p.m. (your own local time)–whether at home or at work, with friends and family or solo, in a big city or a small town.

What will you do when the lights are off? We have lots of ideas - http://www.earthhour.org/earth-hour-every-day .

Join people all around the world in showing that you care about our planet and want to play a part in helping to fight climate change. Don’t forget to sign up and let us know you want to join Earth Hour.

One hour, America. Earth Hour. Turn out for Earth Hour!

a] vince McMahon has come a long way since Hogan v Andre at wrestlemania 3 hasnt he?
b] i'll do this tonight between 2am and 3am if thats ok?
c] i believe that hardly anyone in the US will even be bothered with this as its got nothing to do with oil/money or anything else with a capital gain.
d] will Al Gore turn off all the lights in his 8 bedroom mansion.once again i doubt it..

anyway good luck, about as worthwhile in north america as a chocolate fireguard whilst China is burning more carbon fuels than the rest of the world and the UK builds a 5 terminal at Heathrow.

a better solution would be for everyone to turn off their computers for a day in the US
isnt innuendo an italian suppository? im gonna ride the wild wind! its_a_hard_life wrote:you nutcase you rule! joxer replies: but in a nice way :-]
^^ Oh, blah. What a downer way to look at it... right as you might be, I think there will be at least a decent amount of people observing the hour in the hopes that next year and the year after more people will join in.

Besides, I'd say an hour with the lights out could be a pretty interesting time.

I turned on all the lights for Earth Hour.

In the meantime, I turned off all the appliances that *really* guzzle the electricity.
I would've done something in a bed, but since my bf is a bit far away from me...

It'd be dark, that's for sure.

I stopped watching the WWF after Vince screwed Bret out of the World Title.
Jasna Baketa is a bitch.
I'm sick of all my kicks.
this is a load of hypocritical bollox

"earth hour"...so currently we have the good old USA telling India and China to "cut back" on greenhouse gasses and consumption of natural resources....fucking amazing!
so it's alright for USA to "develop" and expend earth's vital raw materials in the process...but the minute anyone else wants to advance its "turn your lights off" time....that's rich!

can't wait til the day when USA is the world's third superpower...behind India and china then we will see who gets pushed around by who

Hey now the US is surprisingly doing a good job of cutting back and there is no problem for the US to tell other countries to do so. We aren't the hypocritical bullies you think we are.

And this has what to do with individuals trying to promote awareness?

Idiocy, I agree, took us from the Kyoto agreement. Idiocy has been running this country for the past two terms. It's time people start thinking and realize a large portion of the American people despise the current administration and its policies as much if not more so than the rest of the world.

Going dark for an hour is supposed to be a show solidarity for a cause. Stupid me for thinking others would be mature enough to see that simple gesture as genuine.

I accidently participated cuz I slept through it. My plan was to turn everything on just to be different but it backfired :@

Silly gimmick.

Haha, what are you smoking? This sudden boom in China/India is not going to last more than a couple of decades. Then it'll collapse and they won't be able to support themselves.

I can't wait to see it all implode. Serves them right for being such cocks... buying all our iron ore. I wish we'd stop selling it to them.
think you need to do a little research. history has shown a succession of "roman empires" or superpowers...the lending crisis that America suffered last year has bitten harder there than anywhere else.

look at the last 2,000 yrs...rome, vikings, france, spain, britain, even the ottman and prussian empires had a bash....it's currently america's turn....but the world keeps evolving...and while the current superpowers elect right-wing christian extemeists they will stagnate.

china and india are taking western refuse to their landfill as it makes money...they have seen the profligate nature of our society and are exploiting it....they have plenty of money-making options with no shortage of raw materials or labour-force.
