I dunno, I wouldn't for a minute expect China to fare any differently than the USA, as far as eventual collapses go. Their time will come (and go), is all I'm saying.

how long do you think empires last? some only last a decade or two...America have been "world top dog" since the space race started 1960. fifty years is not exactly a long time in charge by comparison to say, Romans (300yrs), French (200yrs), Spain (again 200+yrs) and Britain (400 yrs)
i just have a feeling that in my lifetime the Chinese will emerge as the next carrier of the "global superpower baton"...if radical Islam doesn't get there first

But seriously, I'm all for helping the environment any way that I can; I turn off my lights and computer when I go to sleep, and such. But let's be honest. These special "hours" and "days" and "weeks" or whatever will not help the issue.
Why? Simple. For every "day" that we spend saving energy, every other day will be spent doing the same energy-burning activities that our country, and other countries, are known for. It will raise awareness, but only for a short time. After that, it's back to normal.
Personally, I believe that goals such as cutting down on energy, using less fuel, and raising awareness for a "greener" America, as the media calls it, will not be reachable immediately. It's like losing weight; it takes time and commitment, and it may get worse before it gets better.
This is just about as pointless as Live Earth was. Trying to get people to become more environmentally friendly, while building massive electronic monstrosities for musical artists to perform on after they've flown from all over the world on personal jets and ridden in limousines...come on. Hypocrites, anyone?
Seriously. You want results? Don't try to convert people. Do what you can yourself, and maybe people will emulate. Don't try to force your beliefs on others.
