Brought to my attention by a friend and fellow Queenphile... anyone else notice how similar the main riff of "C-Lebrity" is to the main riff from "The Metal" by Tenacious D? I mean, it's VERY VERRY close...

Brian May tried to kill the metal, but the metal had its way.
Funny you should say that, This Saturday just gone, I was in my car listening to my newly ripped version of C-Lebrity, when my cousin stated the same thing, "It's the riff from "The Metal" he said. Well not being familier with that track I could not comment, but since listening to it, YES very Simular indeed. Maybe Roger is a Jack Black Fan?
It also sounds like Touch of Evil by Judas Priest.
I don't want to call Brian on plagiarism here (he is my hero, after all) but it's sooo close... it's kind of like Steve Miller's "the Stake" ripping off "Rocky Mountain Way", only in that case it was a flat out rip-off.

If I sat down and had a listen to the last 30 years worth of rock riffs, I could probably find older instances of a riff like this than Tenacious D....

Brian's always been one of the most innovative guitar players around - he wouldn't outright steal a riff. He wouldn't need to. This one just happens to sound like something else, that's all. Not exactly, but close.
I'm sure, eons ago, a caveman hit two logs and grunted, thereby halfway composing WWRY... doesn't make that one stolen either...

Like Judas Priest's track...yes, there's a similarity in the riff and way it's played. But apart from that, not a big deal. It's true you can't come up with much that's new these days, but Brian has done plenty great stuff before.
I'll never forget the time I created a great riff by myself and thought, "YES!" But then I stuck on Dead On Time and while it wasn't the same, it had a similar vibe about it. Damn... :( But hey, who cares?
