C-lebrity s-ucks.

Come on, admit it. C-lebrity is a horrible song. The music itself pales in comparison to, say, The Prophet's Song and the lyrics are absolutely piss poor - such as

Jesus Christ. Piss poor lyrics, I tell you. Ok, don't get me wrong - when what's left of Queen teamed up with Paul Rodgers and went on tour, I was terribly excited. I saw them as many times as I could afford and loved every concert. However, what they appear to be turning into kind of steers me away from my once rabid enthusiasm.C-lebrity, both the spelling of and the song itself is a little sell outish, don't you think?

Posted that prematurely, not that my edit changes my stance on the subject. But if you will, do read my ramble.

Just to throw in another two cents, I do realize that Brian and Roger are trying to appeal to a different demographic and attempting to be fresh and new. I really hope that they keep some of the signature Queen sounds and feel throughout the rest of the album, as C-lebrity was devoid of neither the feel nor sound of Queen.

To be honest for me quite lot of Queen lyrics are really simple. But together with the music they set to them, they sound really important. Ex: "sometimes i feel i'm gonna break down and cry, nowhere to go nothing to do with my time, i get lonely"

"i don't want to sleep with you, i don't need the passion too, all i need is to know that my woman brings me sweet mother love"

"so love me like there's no tomorrow, take me in your arms, tell me you mean it, this is our last goodbye and very soon it will be over, but today just love me like there's no tomorrow"

"friends will be friends, when you're in need of care, to give you love and attention"

And also i see this song not as the message "look we're QUeen with PR and we want be noticed like a brand new cool band", for me it's just the topic they've chosen to tackle, and i think they're appealing to the young audience-"write my life story before i'm 21".

The song's about the new generation of celebrities who'll do anything to get on television or generally become famous.

If anything it's making fun of celebrity, not embracing it or being "sell outish" at all. Do we know if Roger wrote this? It has the same vibe as something like "Nation of Haircuts" on "Electric Fire"

To be honest. Yes. I fully agree.
Went 6 times last tour, and loved all of them, but my Q+PR excitement isn't what it used to be. I really hope they come up with an album wich gets me excited again but to be honest I very much doubt that will happen.

I'm more into other bands these days...

You could just as easily have said the same thing about "Tear It Up", "Body Language", "Coming Soon", and many more. Not every song on every album is going to be "The Prophet's Song". That's an unfair and unrealistic comparison and you know it. Judge the work when you hear the album in its totality. "The Prophet's Song" was on the same album as "I'm in Love with My Car" and those certainly don't compare well either, but they both have their own merit.

"Sell-outish"? No, don't think so. Its precisely the kind of song I would expect Roger Taylor to write, its a fun catchy pop song along the lines of "I Want to Break Free" and "A Kind of Magic" that later-period Queen were good at, and I think the lyrics are quite cheeky and clever. So there.
