Great performance by the Dutch team, I never expected Italy to lose 0-3. So, Marco Van Basten did everything right, after all. Best wishes to Van Gaal, Johan Cruyff et al - and now shut up.

LOL! Actually I didn't have to change the channel as I fell asleep 5 minutes into the match.
But do you know what really bothered me? : 15 000 yellow buggers not knowing the fucking national anthem! And nobody noticed!

Cruijff has actually been the advisor of Van Basten, till they fought a few months ago. But that fight was about the youth academy of Ajax, not about the Dutch national team.

I don't know what's worse. Falling asleep after 5 minutes, or not knowing the national anthem. xD
Anyway, we Dutch are good with our national anthem. So join our country if that is what bugs you. ;-)

i'd like to see/hear you try to explain the offside rule to Maggie using the first Dutch goal as an example and while you are at it you may want to explain it to the Swedish linesman too ;-]

Thanks for the invitation xD, but since I come from the town of the national anthem I cannot overlook this. It was horrible! And I keep hearing this abomination on the news.
Anyhow yay! for kicking some azzuri arse. I'll be seeing you on the 17th! Muhahaha! Beware! >:-]
@ The Miracle: German media reported that Cruyff dissed Van Basten in public for "betraying" the Dutch tactical football principles(4-3-3)- and that was only a few days ago. Cruyff said that 2 defensive Midfielders were useless because they take away "the room for the defenders" and Van Basten should play the traditional 4-3-3. I have a lot of respect for Cruyff but he seems to be a bit old fashioned and should shut up or support the team coach.
Why the Nistelrooy goal counted:
Ruud Van Nistelrooy was not offside because Italian defender Panucci was behind the goal line outside the field. The rule says that a defender cannot put a striker in an offside position by leaving the field. Had Panucci left the field on purpose trying to create an offside position for Nistelrooy, the referee would have had to caution him for leaving the field without permission in the next break. But even though he fell outside the field and it was not on purpose, an offside was impossible due to Panucci being outside. The rule is not so well known, I think most of us just learnt about it when Nistelrooy scored.

offside part 2:
now,ive looked closely at Spains 4th goal today and i cant see anyone lying in a heap behind the goal so how did that one stand? ;-]

Well, partly true... he said something about the two defensive midfielders. That they block the passline to the attackers. But he said also that, now Robben is injured, we don't have two wingers anymore. So he said that we needed to do a "tutti-fruity" line-up and see what happens. And that's actually how we played... tutti fruity, with one striker, Kuijtt from the right wing and Van der Vaart en Sneijder just walkig everywhere.

As I'm a diplomated referee, I knew this rule... but no-one believed me yesterday. xD
