Oh shit.
What a bummer.
He was an American gem.
His comedy always made you see beyond the bullshit and reach a deeper truth while you laughed your ass off.
A true one off that will be surely be missed
RIP George Carlin.

only the good die young

IT IS NOT FUCKING FAIR.
You don't have to agree 100% with a comedian to enjoy their act.
Carlin made you understand his point of view regardless of whether you followed a faith or were agnostic. The man sure had an immense amount of wit.
May the "invisible man in the sky" bless him.

No!!! He's such a staple of our lives - we quote him so often, little comments here and there that most people recognize and laugh about. No... so sad.
RIP, i liked his jokes about religion
The best ever....that just sucks.
I never got to see him live, which I really wanted to.

Same here.
Last Saturday my wife and I were driving to Atlantic City to see Stevie Nicks at the Borgata. I noticed this sign for a George Carlin show, and I just thought it would be cool to go to one of his shows.
...I guess not anymore.

I was fortunate enough to see him live twice. George has been a major influence on the way I see the world (minus the cynicism). His fearless and realistic look on life, his focus on language, and his ability to openly and easily speak about virtually every taboo subject in the book are what he will be remembered for. Simply put, he was an ambassador for independent and critical thought. He took the truth to a new level.
This one really sums up everything the man was about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUgT81FMBn8
RIP, George. May Joe bless you now more than ever!

When I saw this on MSNBC.com this morning I was sure that it was a mistake, or some sick joke. But unfortunately that is not the case.
His comedy is brilliant, and will remain so for years to come. His penetrating insights are something I highly admire and only wish I had half of the talent for myself.
Rest in Peace George. You changed comedy forever, and we are all forever in your debt.

I just went on eBay and grabbed the Bill and Ted films.
Buying 'shit I don't need', in honour of Mr. Carlin!

It's not mentioned on his website, so I refuse to believe it.
