[QUOTE][QUOTENAME]Benn wrote: [/QUOTENAME]>>Benn. You are amusing. I cannot deny that.
Groovy - praise indeed.
>>But I genuinely get the sense that life has dealt you some tough blows which you're just the teeny-weeniest bit resentful about. NOT lots of em, just a few... which tend to colour some of your comments to me, you naughty man.
Assumption being the mother of all fuck ups. What would you term a "tough blow"? Also, why would I resent being dealt any harsh blows, had I received any. Life is what it is and no one ought to resent what live deals them IMO.
They might just decide to join a message board and post complete tosh.........
>>I mean, for example, it seems to bother you that I have said I do a good job, sometimes. "self-aggrandisation" you call it. But actually, why is that such an issue? It's not the first time you've jumped on this. So it bothers you for some reason you've not yet imparted.
>>Yes, I have said that. Patted myself on the back sometimes for doing a good job. Don't YOU do that? Are you so British that you think it galling to indulge in "self-aggrandisation"???
Personally, and you can take what you want from this if you like, I DESPISE people bigging themselves up. Your actions or your work should speak for themselves; if it's worthy of recognition, other people will be the best judges - certainly not YOU Brooksy - given that they, for the most part, have no bias. Whereas, you, judging your own work, will instantly be tainted by bias.
For what it's worth, I thought that the FM box was a great production, but was disappointed by a number of omissions and errors which were avoidable. Having you tell us what a great job you did on it serves absolutely no purpose and doesn't do "the work" any service at all.
>>Freddie said many times how GREAT the new Queen album was.
There was a new Queen album? When? Which one? The Works was a crock of shit - having Freddie telling me that an album full of pop songs and little rock is great just did the band no favours at all IMO. But, again, the work speaks for itself and the creator doesnt need to tell us how good it is or isn't. It either stands up against itself or it doesn't - end of story.
>>The girl on Gardeners Weekly last night said her Roses were "PHENOMENAL!" What's wrong with that????????
Ditto above.
>>The Americans love "self-aggrandisation" and we here in the UK shy away from it like the plague.
Yeah - an ingrained arrogance that they appear to have set in their genetic make-up; never liked it unless it was being displayed bt J R Ewing.........
>>I was JOKING about the 'F' word, silly chap. Should have thought that was obvious, given the amount of times I use it.
>>My note to you was tinged with humour. Why not take it in the spirit with which it was intended, instead of being a stiff upper lipped, stiff-headed generally, pompous Brit?
Trying to spot ANYTHING of worth in what you post is tough at the best of times, so a veiled reference to humour is that much more difficult to spot.
Pompous - again, no idea how you manage to see that in anything I write.
>>Glad you dished out lots of love from your heart, in other aspects of your life, because here on QZ, on threads I've seen anyway, you come across as a serious, slightly resentful, jealous even, man, whose always out to bring someone down a peg or two. And that's not really very clever or nice, is it. Not to be applauded.
>>Too STIFF, Ben. Stiff stiff stiff. Lighten up son!!!
Again - assumptions galore. The one that troubles me here though is jealous. What are you really implying here Greg? I think I know, but I'd like you to tell me what you think I'm jealous of.
>>Don't look to bring me down a peg or two more. Look for the positive.
You're that one that appears to constantly be elevating himself to the position of some kind of Queen encyclopedia; who has connections and who is of significant worth to the Queen fan base. Fact is that you've done nothing other than slag various people off at certain times (admittedly, under extreme provocation in many cases) and at the same time, even to the people that seem to like you (and good on them!), deliver NOTHING of significant worth or interest on what ought ot be used as an information exchange.
>>And don't be so irritated at what is obviously, underneath, just a bit of fun.
I care about Queen and how they are represented - you're not doing a great job IMO and I'm pointing it out. You take the fun element out of it (other than being mildly amusing in your rants) and it's just a little bit irritating - which I'm happy to be.

Benn...
I am not writing this in the heat of the moment. I have stopped to consider my words first. I thought that best.
I think you really are a genuinely horrible little shit. You come across as a know-all clever clogs smart-arse who can't back down because you'd view that as losing out or, God forbid, backing down somehow. You can't find it in you to meet me half way, or display even the tiniest degree of good grace in the way that you put your rigid unbendable points of view across.
I was thinking that you might be having a bit of a laugh some of the time... saying some of the things you do, with your tongue in your cheek. But no... you really ARE the genuine article... a miserable, uptight arse hole, who cannot, will not, for any reason, budge even a tiny bit or consider seeing things from another perspective.
You make your mind up on a certain thing and then THAT'S IT. You are immovable thereafter. Not big enough or gracious enough to consider a second think about it, much less ever admit so.
The things that I write, ANYONE can see, do always have an element of humour to them. NOT always funny, I know that, and not everyone's cup of tea, sure. But YOU, you are just a nasty git with nothing endearing about you that I can see.
I know that won't bother you at all. I'm not saying it for that reason. But I've met horrible sods like you many times...
Underneath everything you have said to me is the unmistakable hint of a jealous twat who cannot bring himself to meet anyone half way, let alone Greg Brooks - because that would be so beneath you, and you are always right and without fault.
Jesus! I can well imagine what it must be like to be around you for very long. Always right, never willing to listen or change your stance.
You couldn't stop and re-think, and consider the possibility that you might be wrong about something, or someone, if your sorry life depended upon it.
If you read back everything you said in this thread you will see what a charmless, humourless, know-all know-nothing envious turd you come over as. You might NOT be that person, but you certain portray yourself that way. Just read it to see. Not that you will, of course, because you already know everything and couldn't possibly be wrong on this.
You are completely devoid of anything endearing or likable. Has anyone on this site ever said anything really nice about you or to you?

Open questions to anyone else here on QueenZone who cares to read this:
Who, other than Greg, views ANYTHING I have EVER posted in the same way as he does and why?
Do any of you believe that I may be jealous, envious or any other adjective that Greg has cared to use to describe me?
Greg - I'm not envious of you in any way whatsoever. I'm a cracking bloke to be around as my friends will tell you. I have made very few enemies in my life and I'm proud to say that I hate or despise no one. Somehow, you've rattled off a lst of descriptive terms that you've used against many of the people here that care to disagree with you. You revert to type almost every time and it's nothing short of predictably funny.
At the end of the day Greg, there's nothing more I'd like than for you to truly astonish us all with some information. Or to take up the cause of the wider Queen collecting community and make a big push to get Queen's archive "out there" using whatever means possible - if it means daily letters to the "high council" a-la "Shawshank Redemption", then so be it. Queen are derided in many quarters these days as a bit of a joke. To me they are part of Britain's (and ROCK'S!) musical heritage, but where's the evidence?
You'll notice in a NUMBER of posts over time, I've backed you and much of what you have done and brought to the table here. But, to be brutally honest, you're too inconsistent across the board. I may be inflexible and unwavering, but it's because I have absolute faith in what I believe to be true. I'm prepared to be proven wrong and will always accept when I'm wrong, however, I will fight my corner; as I'm sure you will.
I've offered assistance to you on many occasions in any way, shape or form on any project you feel may need it, but have never even had a "no thank you". The offer is always there and is open as a gesture of goodwill to Queen and certainly not for my own benefit. If it's not taken up, then fine no problem at all. No jealousy there at all.
I have no need or desire to score points from you, but you seem to feel that you need to do that. Fine. Enjoy the result.

Just out of interest, is it an absolute fact that the starter of this thread is definitely who he says he is? If so, I am agog at the absurd level of childishness involved. Surely Brian May would have a word with him or send out the Queen Mafia just like when the Bo Rhap masters etc were leaked. Very embarrassing all round.

Welcome to Queenzone.
I've always doubted that he is in fact the "real" Greg Brooks. Even though he's stated that his opinopns / thoughts / comments are his own and not representative in any of the thoughts, views or opinions of QPL or it's employees. I just have a very hard time believing that QPL qould allow an "employee" (if Greg really is employed by QPL) to frequent this place and say the things he does to and about the very peopple that are curcial to the success (or otherwise) of Queen and QPL.
Personally I would say they are not really bothered what he says hear so long as it doesn't give away personal details or company details, i.e. too much information about future releases or projects.
For example, if he were to upload the bands home addresses or phone numbers, or for that matter the details of future releases I suspect Jim would remove him from any further contact with the business over night.
However if he calls someone a twat, or teases folk with silly stories I should imagine they have no real interest, at the end of the day Queenzone represents a very small part of the fan base, so the reality is, they will frankly not be bothered what goes on here.
Over the years I have grown to see more of Gregs point of view, he does get attacked the moment he pops his head above the trench, admittedly often he provokes it but very often he does no more than many others here.
He does forget often that some people hear might be a little older, so phrases like you have no idea what it takes to get a project like this off the ground, seem rather ignorant, because some of us work on major projects that make work on a book seem like nursery school, a project with 500-1000 people working on it like a film or a building or a re-branding is a much bigger project, likewise has he ever tried to launch a business and grow it to cover multi million pounds? no, well take it from me it's hard work and takes years of effort, so compiling a book would seem to be somewhat less in comparison, not that I am taking anyway any of the effort involved I am just pointing out that others here will be involved in major projects.
The fact is whatever Greg does here is going to make little difference to the image of the band, they are what they are and you either love em or hate em.
I would say that if we as fans are going to get a little more out of the fact that Greg comes here from time to time it would be better to cut him a little slack from time to time, you never know what may happen as a result, frankly if I was him and I got the reaction he gets here I would simply not bother being here at all.
Sure he loves to wave the "Queen vault" card in the faces of people here, but believe me, the novety would quickly wear off if in reality you had to compile list after list of every scrap of tape you found, only the truely dedicated fan would fing it interested month after month year after year, I would much rather have my job than his... but that is just me, I have never been that obsessive about a band.
At the end of the day I think he does on occassion act poorly, but given the history I suspect I would as well, I can see the amusment factor being pretty entertaining, coming here and stirring up shit everytime, it must be fairly amusing.
Reap what you sow people and whilst what a lot of what has gone on in the past has been bizaar to say the least, he has got a lot of flack for stuff that has probably been out of his control, such as the none return of tapes, or the lack of information about the archives etc.
As for the errors, well, which of us is perfect? WHo here can claim they have never left something off or out by mistake when writting something, and speaking from experience, proof reading is a real skill, something I certainly don't have and frequently read things over and over in documents and miss something right in front of my face!
I know many will disgaree with me on this, but I would say there is more to be gained from him than lost. every now and then he will be true to his word and let some interesting facts out for those interested in the workings of the vaults.
Let the flamming commence...

Togg,
No flaming necessary - you raise many good points here.
The issue to me is one of perspective. We have someone here in a position to do some real good for the Queen community. All we get are rants and tirades against people who, in the past happen to have disagreed, questioned or criticised what he has done. Agreed, a lot of that criticism has bordered on the maniacal from certain quarters, but where it has been constructive and to the point, perspective has been lost and then, months down the line, used against certain "faces" as ammunition.
I'd dearly like it to all be so different. See my post on the Serious Discussion page......

No I agree, it in many ways is an opportunity lost... sad to say

Here here! It's pathetic. I would definitely like to see the reaction of Brian and Roger, should they see not only what an immature twat they entrust their archives to, but the potential threat to QP confidentiality such a petty and outspoken individual poses in the long run.
I know, were it me, I would not allow employees to post on any such site, as it represents a conflict of interest, no matter how lowly the position of said employee.
Less playing in the mud puddle, more archiving, Greg!

kagezan1313,
But in all honesty, I really don't think either Brian or Roger care. They are always looking to create and move forward, rendering discussions about the band's history almost irrelevant to them. Places like Queenzone hold no interest to them simply because of the nature of the people and the discussions. They're just not "of the moment" enough for them.
HOWEVER, the higher echelons of QPL really did ought to be aware and frightened of the impact of what Greg has been doing here. Even if he manages to piss off just 100 of the countless thousands of Queen fans in the world, it's entirely possible that what he writes here could have a DIRECT IMPACT on the spending patterns of some of the people Queen are aiming product at. Even if he posts under the umbrella of his opinions not representing QPL or it's employees, it's necessary that he's reigned in to an extent so as not to do too widespread an amount of damage.
In many ways, the guy's a loose cannon - could you imagine having him working for you and going out on the street telling your customers who know who he works for, that they're a bunch of wankers?
Destructive and dangerous.

There are two different issues here, were Greg to in some way reveal personnal details of the band memebers or confidentail company details, I have no doubt he would be removed from the business instantly, however, what he does here is not that, he does not reveal any information that is not either already in the public domain or has been sanctioned by the powers that be in Queenland
The fact that he has an online argument with people from time to time is not really nay different to say a sound engineer telling a fan to piss off when they ask for the setlist at a concert.
I can't see anything in the history of Gregs communications on Queenzone that would really have any effect on fans purchase habbits.
I suspect that if anyone at QPL is aware he comes here, and I doubt they are, they would just view it as personal.
The fact is very few people actually come to the site in reality, and even fewer come to the forum section, it's almost always the same 20-30 names, so in terms of bringing the Queen name down, it has very little impact, most fans don't know QZ is here, or if they do they come here once or twice then move on, very few really visit often when comparied to the millions of Queen fans worldwide.
You have got to be into Queen enough to want to search ever last detail, then you have got to want to be on a site that is not affiliated with the band officailly, then you have got to want to post on a forum.
I suspect most online Queen fans go to the official site and a few stay on here because the forum has no mods... other than that you get the same news from mopstly the same people if you look.
BTW I am not running QZ down, just stating fact.
If you notice, Greg plays very little part on the offical site...
At the end of the day, unless he does some real damage, I can't see the folk at QPL even noticing he is online here.

Now, I don't personally know Brian or Roger, but judging from their lifestyles and what they do, I would imagine that:
(1) They probably don't even know who Greg Brooks is. Do you seriously think that Roger loses sleep because he's worried that the "Archives" were left unlocked last night?
and
(2) They don't associate with someone like Greg Brooks. I mean Brian writes books on Space, Roger likes to drive expensive cars, how does Greg fit into this? Maybe he and Brian like to play with their Star Wars toys late at night but that's the ONLY connection.

Togg,
Love the sound engineer analogy. Put like that, then absolutely - it is no different, is it?
I suppose it's something of a romantic idea that I cling toi in terms of QPL caring enough to be on the ball with everything and making sure that no one runs the Queen name down in the slightest if they are on the payroll.
Reality, of course, is that they don't care in the slightest. Greg's his own guy and is free to do what he likes and whenever he wants to. After all, we do, don't we?
Key here, fo me, I think, is to just get on with it and wait, studiously, as I have done for the last decade or so, for there to be something of real worth to spend my hard-earned on. If it takes another decade or so, then that's OK, isn't it? I can happily watch as other band's catalogues are dealt with and eventually Queen will catch up, having watched, too, in order that the mistakes of other's are not made because of a hasty release.
